99% of companies do not add extra jobs. However, people do turn down offers. The company I work for (large "prestigious" engineering firm) keeps a reserve list of something like 10-15% and expects to end up hiring many of them instead. That said, don't hedge your bets on being selected, keep looking for a plan b.
Its just the soy GMO's reacting with the natural chemtrail residue in your body, nothing to worry about
I'm in the same boat as you. Graduated last July and been applying for Soft Dev grad jobs since. Been through plenty of interviews and coding tests but never reached the reserve list, so congrats! Most companies will keep you hanging and do their rejections and offers in waves (hence the wait). They don't normally add any more jobs than advertised (at least externally. I've heard of plenty of companies offering 2 - 3 jobs to "outsiders" but there's 10+ on the internal system). In your case, people will reject offers if they can find a better deal elsewhere so there's a chance you'll be offered the position, but I wouldn't hold my hopes up for it. Sometimes you can get a real conniving little shit who will accept the offer, but leaves after the 2nd month when it's too late for the company to call in a reserve. Personally, I'd keep applying for other jobs just in case you aren't offered the reserve place. If you are - then it's pretty simple to just tell the other companies that you've accepted an offer etc.
Asda stopped carrying the Soba noodles that I like so now I have to get them at Sainsbury's. Bloody Walmart.
Thanks guys, ill keep looking then.
This dissertation procrastination has got out of hand. I climbed Arthur's Seat just so I didn't have to go back to the library.
Could be worse. I spent most of my time teaching my main reader and second reader what my project was all about just because my programming solution was for Windows, but both of them were *Unix guys where it wouldn't work or it would work differently (it was related to how Windows loads DLL files, but for Unix those are .so files etc etc)... Still walked away with a 2.1 and 76% on the Dissertation though.
I've been putting off writing my dissertation report for 1.5 months now. Maybe I should start.
Yeah, I started the day before yesterday, and it's due on the 20th. I'll either nail it or do okay. There's time!
I wrote my dissertation in two weeks. 10,000 words of pretentious gibberish and a 2.1 in return. You'll do fine.
Annoyingly, someone on my year wrote it the day before it was meant to be due in (did an all nighter) and ended up with the highest mark in the year. Still pretty pissed at that...
This stuff reminds me why I dropped out. I'm simply not the person who could write a dissertation
Yeah, I lost interest in my Honours towards the end, I wanted to build an interactive story but after my first months pitch session they were like "That's too much work, do something else", zero interest, encouragement or help. But that was Uni in a nutshell, I feel like the tutors had so many needy bastards to deal with I was basically teaching myself all the time through online tutorials. Didn't have to get into debt for that, could've got a job and done that shit in my spare time, which is what I was doing before I went to Uni. Then having to write a dissertation in an Art course where essays barely passed 1000 words for the previous 3 years? I dinnae hae the power, cap'n.
where are all these secret edinburgh FPers hiding out at codenamecueball & I aren't basement dwellers, happy to welcome any fresh faces as long as they don't eat their own hair / support the JIDF
Hiding in a Princes Street Costa mostly or in Spoons on Lothian Road.
Anywhere with lots of books at the moment. I'm finished on the 4th of May though!
I will say i have spent more time in a Spoons than id want to admit and i wouldn't be surprised if i have served any Facepunchers. Its odd seeing Hive on Facepunch of all places...
if you've been to hive, you've probably been photographed by a Facepuncher in that case
More reason to avoid the place!
Got asked for id buying a mountain dew today. I'm twenty four this month.
I don't get ID for booze anymore and I've never felt so old
Last time I was ID'd, you could still buy smokes at 16. I remember saying "My ID's in my car" and the cashier a like "Oh right, well if you're old enough to drive then here you go".
One of the schools local to me are sending out letters because they want to petition to ban Fortnite. Apparently some of the kids have been playing it and people talking on their mics have used "bad language". Am I wrong in thinking that, just like in any game, it is the responsibility of the parent to change the settings so that their children don't encounter strangers online? It is in no way the game's fault, I have met fucked up people in pretty much every game I've played. But there's always a setting to "turn them off". I'm just sick of people refusing to accept their responsibility and passing the blame onto others.
I would have thought the reports of kids being groomed by Paedos would have made them do it, not the swearing because they'll do that even without a mic.
In order to protect them, I would like to ban all children.
its parenting. Games don't do fuck all to children unless the kids are pretty much at "risk" also I hate the argument "you meet strange people in online gaming", yeah but you can also meet some fucked up people on your way home from school.
I wish I still had the letter to quote, but I wouldn't have posted about it, had it been about children being groomed. From what I can remember, it mentioned that the teachers were hearing the children talking about going home to play this game after school, how it "sounded violent", and how they were using bad language that they'd heard people using in the game. This is a religious school, my nephew goes and they're always sending out these types of letters. Unfortunately not everything is in our control when it comes to children using the internet, but regular monitoring of their activity sure helps.
@King thank you for giving me the last coin i needed to get gold membership (after 8 years)
Fucks sake, had a stupid moment at the Sainsbury's cashpoint and fogot to take the £20 I took out.
If nobody else took it, the machine takes back the money and puts it back into your account
