First (and last) time I played T&B I downloaded all 3gb or so (On my terrible connection) of shitty models, walked out into the street, got yelled at by a CP and shoved into a hotel. I then spent the next 20 minutes locked in a hotel watching two admins noclip around outside, dicking about with an NPC gunship that shot anyone who walked outside Left and never came back, fuck "serious" RP
I played TnB's Terminator RP for about six months from about the time it started to get big. It was such a hilarious mess of no one knowing what to do, admin abuse, the people who primarily played Terminator characters being obnoxious brats allowed to do whatever they wanted, and nonstop sexual roleplay. I'm not kidding when I say that about 40% of all roleplay done in that at the time was sexual. Wanted to get in to the resistance? Got cyber with an admin or squad leader. Wanna get a gun? Gotta fuck someone. Wanna avoid having your character randomly killed off? Gotta blow an admin. Seriously, it was a reoccurring issue until just before I left when finally someone stepped up and banned the practice that Terminator players would randomly raid the main survivor base just to drag a few people out to some shitshack and force the people they captured to cyber or their characters would be killed off. I really wish that was bullshit. Not to mention the introduction of random Mary Sues every three days. The Blair Williams that basically had to be the center of attention all the time. The random super powered ninja assassin chicks that were entirely unexplained and had no reason to exist other than for a few people to have even more power than they did already. I avoided their Half-Life 2 RP like the fucking plague though, for all the problems the Terminator RP side had, it was amplified ten-fold for the HL2RP stuff. I would look in on that part of the forums occasional and hear from people who played both regularly and goddamn. Basically, if you weren't close friends with someone important, your character was probably going to die within a couple weeks of your creating it at most. Or you'd piss off someone by refusing to fuck them or let them do something stupid, and you'd find you'd get fucked over forever after that. [editline]11th June 2014[/editline] The only reason I avoided the problems of the Blood Moron Orgies in the Terminator RP was by basically cheating the system in my own to get away from it. I used a custom hud to keep an eye on things, so I'd know when to just run the fuck away to avoid incoming bullshit. I'd intentionally crash my game to get away with leaving when stupid shit was about to happen or I was at risk of my character getting captured and forced to cyber with others. I got captured one time in that and brought out to the shit shack, and they tried to make me and the guy they captured with me cyber. Fortunately a friend of mine was one of the Terminator players there at the time and he stepped in. I guess I can say that at least; I may have been guilty of my own forms of abuse to avoid the overall stupidity of it but I never did any sexual roleplay with any of those twits. So at least I have a little dignity from that period.
The only times I've managed to make RP fun is by being a gigantic shitlord and seeing how long I can say that I'm "rping" until I get kicked
These big RP communities have a skewed perception of their own player base.
These big RP communities have a skewed perception of their own player base.
There are a number of issues with the major ones. Ideally, the best way to approach it would be with the administrators taking on the role of a DM as per Tabletop Gaming. They craft scenarios for the characters, but do not directly involve themselves or take a personal investment in the events. It allows largely fair roleplay that is mostly focused on a continuing story, and shouldn't have the issues of abuse that are endemic to the communities currently. And it should help keep stagnation from occurring. But that requires far more coordination and thought than most want to put in to it, and most of the administrators for RP communities are not and could not be an effective DM. Even if they tried to take that approach, most would have problems with creating enough paths in the story to account for the choices and actions of the players. Similarly, they'd have trouble not taking a personal investment in it. As well, you'd see many who wouldn't be able to handle things not going according to their plan, or the characters finding a way to best them.
I remember my first time on a Fallout RP server. Ran about fucking about for 5-10 minutes, got 'picked up' (see 'enslaved') by some fucker in his shitshack before at least 20 minutes later some Legion cunts came to pick me up where I was thrown into a second shitshack with 5 other guys before we were all taken out and randomly executed. I guess if you aren't a powerful char or don't have friends in the server, you get fucked in post-apoc RP modes. Fuck Fallout RP.

Admins were only there as referees to settle disputes and ban minges - they weren't allowed to have leadership within any official or non-official faction. The ideal system would be to have them not participate in roleplay at all, like you said, to remain unbiased, but good luck finding somebody to volunteer to spend all of their time (without any pay) on a roleplay server not roleplaying, but flying around the map for hours waiting for somebody to break a rule. They should still be allowed to participate, just not be put into a position of IC power.

Roleplay can be fun if done correctly-- that doesn't mean roleplay is fun almost ever.
fuck around. :v:
The puns are unstoppable.
I've never played on RP servers. What's void do?
We need to start a new version of Super Cereal again, it was really fun last year.
I've never played on RP servers. What's void do?
I assume it means that you did something by accident and it supposedly makes it not happen.
I've never played on RP servers. What's void do?
In short, it's CTRL + Z.
