Want to get into pink floyd which albums do I listen to first?
Want to get into pink floyd which albums do I listen to first?
Wish You Were Here and Animals. Those are the easiest albums to enjoy for me. If you can understand what it is about them that makes you feel good, then go for Dark Side of the Moon.
Want to get into pink floyd which albums do I listen to first?
Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall. After that, go for Wish You Were Here and Meddle. Then Animals and then the rest.
I think we should have something in the OP about where to start with Floyd.
True. Everyone has a different opinion, so maybe an explaination on each album.
So I listened to dark side of the moon and wish you were here for the first time, mind = blown I love this
True. Everyone has a different opinion, so maybe an explaination on each album.
True, but The Dark Side of the Moon is the general starting point. Maybe a guide showing just to start with that, then branching off with the next couple of accessible Floyd albums, then into the more obscure stuff, and so on.
and then we'll get more posts like this
Not everyone reacts like that :v:

I think DSOTM is literally the easiest starting point, very closely followed by WYWH. They are more "normal" rock and roll sounding. Of course the Wall too, but not everyone is really "ready" for that muc Floyd. I started DSOTM and Wall and loved them both, then WYWH, a friend gave me the Division Bell and then I got Meddle. Everyone is "different" but I think most people start with DSOTM/Wall/WYWH.
wasn't initially impressed with Dark Side. But I was young... listened to a LOT more soul/folk.
I may be alone on this, but I think "Animals" is one of the more accessible albums for newcomers. I know the songs are pretty lengthy, but that album is 90% straight rock. The songs are nicely structured too, so they don't seem as long as their track listing says. Of course, I'm used to listening to behemoth tracks like Echoes and Atom Heart Mother as well.... In short, I'd recommend it as a second listen after DSOTM.
It depends, a lot of people might be deterred by the song lengths, which is why we don't recommend it as a starting album. Some people might be entirely used to it though, so yeah.

They changed their contract so they had UNLIMITED studio time, remember?
Want to get into pink floyd which albums do I listen to first?
Don't listen to everyone here who suggest animals, wywh or dark side be a man and start from the beginning, Piper At The Gates of Dawn you'll get a better experience of the changes they go through.
I'm sorry, you realise this forum isn't the entire Pink Floyd fan base. :v:
Whatever, we get so many posts about where to start with Floyd anyway :v:
Well Piper is a lot easier to do if you're more experienced in psychedelic music.
True. Everyone has a different opinion, so maybe an explaination on each album.
Why don't we all contribute? Bags Division Bell :)
if you're well-versed in prog/psyche, etc. you'll obviously be able to listen to any Floyd a lot easier. But assuming that most people transition from rock/classic rock to Floyd you generally want to start with something like DSOTM. But there really aren't that many prog/psyche enthusiasts that haven't listened to Floyd.
