The library isn't that creepy to me because it is ultimately just a algorithm of every combination of letters possible.
The library itself isn't supposed to be creepy in it's own right, it's the implications that arise from it. There's a lot of really interesting supplementary info on the site that is very informative about Borges and his take on the library. Borges seemingly envisioned the library as a metaphor for our universe and each person as a librarian, surrounded by chaos but persevering under the belief that truth and order exist in some form, somewhere. The real fear comes from the realization that we are a part of a very good random algorithm, but with particles instead of letters. The beyond astronomical numbers used in the equations presented help to illustrate just how random and unlikely it is for things to happen in a way that makes sense. And yet, despite however unlikely it is, we live, and in a world of our own ordering. The world as we experience it around us seems so ordered and sensible that it's easy to forget it took 13 billion years for the universe to become us. If we had some way to exactly examine each of our chances of existence, considering every little possible detour from the cosmic to the mundane that could've resulted in our non-existence, we would find each of our odds to so low as to be what any person would consider to be impossible. This seems really bleak at first, and Borges seems to agree, but over time he seems to have changed his position. After all, regardless of whatever odds of being there are, we all already are.
"Most likely"? Well, I guess hollywood can't be wrong. :sax:
Point is, I really don't care much about the future aside from making sure I can take care of myself at least.
