I always help the guy pushing carts if I see him out there with a longass line of it. They usually refuse help and I usually insist. Especially on days with bad weather. [editline]28th June 2011[/editline] Because tape = Brace
you don't need a brace for a sprained ankle
I'm guessing you work in a Vons/Albersons type of place. I know the big places like WalMart and Costco have this remote controlled machines that push the carts from the back and you steer them from the front.

Not to mention some carts have magnets in them to help them stay together more nowadays

i thought they had ropey things that you attached to the front and back of the line to stop the whole runaway cart thing. I worked at a grocery store once though, i quit in the middle of my second shift and got my old job back the next day :v:
I haven't seen any of these.
I haven't seen any of these.
You must live under a rock then.
This thread tripped me out because I'm actually a carty as well.
Has nothing to do with workplace policy, the law states you have the right to refuse any work you consider unsafe, and something that can make an existing injury worse falls under that
WHAT THE FUCK!? YOUR AVATAR HAS EYEBROWS, TOO!?
You must live under a rock then.
Rural Pennsylvania, actually. Not even the Wal-Mart here has any of that.
I work as a trolleyperson at a large hardware/horticultural/diy retail outlet and I have to push industrial weight trolleys that mostly have fucked up wheels and sure customers are fuckheads for leaving trolleys in ridiculous places, but hey it's part of my job description to put the trolley back no matter where it is left, and since it's my job I do it. I get no machinery either, but seriously suck it up and deal with it, you're getting paid to do a job, do it. Don't like it, quit the job. I do 8am-5pm shifts, and to avoid sunburn I put on sunscreen obviously, wear a hat. As for getting exhausted, deal with it, sure I can barely walk after work, because I'm not very fit, but so what? Oh and I get no mechanical/whatever assistance with the trolleys because my retail outlet has a lot of competition and thus isn't exactly going to spend any extra money on anything they can get away with. You get used to pushing stacks of trolleys by hand. tl;dr: grow up, it's a shit job, get used to it, most people do at least one shit job in their life and have to go through the same thing as you. Don't like the job? Either suck it up, or quit and find something you like more.
I always shove the cart right into the street. :fsmug:
did you seriously just write a short novel about pushing shopping carts
Carts are chained together here.
get another job
I dodge asshole tourists in gocarts working at a gocart track fixing wrecks that happen. If we go a week without a workmans comp claim, we get free pizza.
I always push the cart to the lot myself
Good read. Tell me more of your "Adventures", please. I'd like to know what you would do in a situation if you took a big shit and realized you had no toilet paper.
why are you such an ass to everybody? seriously chill out
TL;DR But I work in carts at Ikea and its fucking great. I'm living the fucking dream.
TL;DR But I work in carts at Ikea and its fucking great. I'm living the fucking dream.
Mother fucking Ikea cart boys. Lived that dream, still live that dream, and will continue to live that dream.

I don't get it, NOWHERE in my country has adopted this scheme. Everyone does it their fucking selves.
here we have tractors
Normally, I can push 7 or so carts at a time without much incident
At Ikea we push about 20 at a time... on a slow day. with two different kinds of carts that jack knife where they meet
I hate you motherfuckers who leave trash in your carts. You walk by like 30 trash cans on your way out you lazy fucks. Even worst is when I find half-eaten fruit in carts. Fuck you, I'm not cleaning up your fucking food-mess. I've had assholes physically hand me their carts, full of fucking trash. There are few people who shop at the store I work that don't do something to make my job even worse. Every time I see someone take the goddamn time to push their cart to a corral, it's like a minor victory. Stop leaving the carts in the middle of the lot, there's a corral at least 25 feet from every parking spot, holy shit. But yeah, carting sucks. Our job is probably one of the most physically demanding and daunting jobs at that store, and we get payed shit, and we have to put up with all sorts of bullshit from our managers, who take their jobs and our jobs absolutely way too seriously. We've been reprimanded for taking a 5'er and leaning against the wall. It's like, god damn, we pull in lines of carts of upwards 10 carts using a rope with a grapple thing at one end, all the way across a parking lot. Carts don't way nothing either, we've done a bit a math and calculated that one line is around a hundred pounds of pulling force on a flat surface, ignoring the fact that we have to pull them up an incline. The job sucks, but at the very least, I'm getting paid and losing weight. I used to be more optimistic, but fuck it, our job is the absolute worst job at that story, just short of working in the seafood section.
At Ikea we push about 20 at a time... on a slow day. with two different kinds of carts that jack knife where they meet
Don't forget about the -30 weather and the ice and gravel in winter combined with the inconveniently sloped parking lot. All of those factors while pushing at least 15 carts
This website is at the same time entertaining and damn annoying.
cool?
Shut up and do your job.
I work at Woolworths and pushing shopping carts is fucking easy after you've done it a few times, in spite of the fact that my entire parking lot is on a tilt. Also, we have chains connecting each trolley (they're set up so you have to put a $2 coin in the trolley for the chain to come out) so they don't fall apart when we push them. Why doesn't your shop? Anyway, you don't have to do work that is going to injure you.
http://www.whitewhine.com/
This website makes me very sad.
