Stretching the spring yourself tends to make it stronger for a few shots, but then it ends up much weaker than normal.
If you're going to stretch the spring, you're going to have to do it the professional way, which involves heating it and stuff. Otherwise, just pulling it out with your hands will severely weaken it in the long run.
