I've had one for about as long as those things have been out and it still works like it's brand spankin' new.
Damn, nerf is so much damn cooler now than when I was a kid.
When I was younger, my friends and I got hours upon hours of enjoyment out of these things. :buddy: I still have about 5 of the guns somewhere, but most of them have been salvaged for springs or deconstructed for the shits and giggles...
I think it is only socially acceptable to play with Nerf guns if you are either (a) under 12 years old or (b) currently working in the Valve offices.

Have the Maverick (the 6-shooter) the Vulcan (the belt-fed MG) and the Recon.
-Maverick is a great gun all around, it can even fire several dart types without jamming making it an easy gun to find darts for.
-the Vulcan, when not running on battery power, is a bulky beast. You can sort of use it like a long range gun... if you put the tripod down. If not, it is very difficult to hold and cock the bolt back. If it is on battery power... it's loud as fuck and doesn't fire the darts as far as if you used the bolt, but it fires 1-3 darts a second. Speaking of which, you cannot use the gun with the belt loose, it will not function. It must be in the box.
-the Recon is a piece of shit and should be avoided at all costs. The longer barrel slows the dart down, reducing range and accuracy: don't even bother putting it on. The cocking mechanism is also on the top of the gun... starting from the front of the gun, and cocked towards the back. Not only is it an awkward motion, it does jam up sometimes. Easy enough to fix but still annoying. The mag system is nice though. Buy a couple extra mags with darts and it's quick and painless to load the gun (same applies to the Longshot and other mag-fed guns I imagine). I gave this gun to my brother, kept the Maverick.
As for older guns, I have owned three of them:
-The Manta Ray is the only one still in working condition. Holds four darts, can fire all four at once OR fire 2 at a time. Nothing special here. Except that it is shaped like a small shield that the sucker darts will stick to. Kind of neat actually. Fires quite far too, a little weird to use though (the way it fits on your arm... your arm passes underneath the tail thing on the right and you hold the black handle. The orange thing on the handle was the trigger, and you could apply pressure to one side of the trigger or the other to fire only one side, or you could pull the whole trigger and fire all 4 darts.

-The Eagle Eye. Best god damn nerf sniper there ever was. Has a nice little scope and laser sight, cock the sucker back (stiff as a mother fucker) and let it fly. Shot far as hell, pretty accurate, and with some small "tweaks", could easily become one of the farthest shooting, most powerful nerf guns around. It was actually quite small too, only slightly larger than a Maverick.

-And my all time favourite nerf gun, Ratchet Blast. Holds 4 darts, fires one at a time. Cocking it was sort of like a breach action, where you bring the barrel down until it cocks and then snap it back up. It could be done quickly and smoothly, producing a good fire rate while allowing you to never take your hand(s) off the gun. Alternatively, you could move the handle to cock it instead but I found that kind of clumsy. Ignore the stupid hand shield on the left side of the picture, it was easy to just snap off/on, leaving just the grip (no stock or anything else to get in the way).

Totally forgot, my friend owned one of these. The Ballzooka. Sounds hilarious, I know. Motorized gun, fired the nerf balls. You loaded them into a chamber at the upper left of the picture. The orange bit sort of in the middle-right of the picture was used to rotate the chamber. There were 3... tracks I guess you could call them. Each could be loaded with balls. Can't remember how many, but it was a lot. This gun has the distinction of being able to fire damn near anything. Might not work very well but it will work.

This gun was one of the strangest I've ever seen... it fired rubber rings. This gun could also fire all kinds of ridiculous things... we had it fire lego and k'nex (spelling?) stuff we made, as well as other things. Was pretty cool actually. I have never in all my days seen Nerf so badass. I think I still have my NERF gun somewhere, it shoots standard suction round that probably got bent over the years.
