Oh no, your archaic and powerless king has a stutter. How exciting.
You must miss out on a lot of good films with this mindset.
the dark knight? oh no a rich american superhero who doesn't even have powers has an identity crisis how exciting [editline]23rd March 2011[/editline] the shawshank redemption? oh no a dude goes to jail then gets out how exciting. [editline]23rd March 2011[/editline] inception? oh no a dude goes into a dream within a dream within a dream to steal someone's knowledge subconsciously wait that one doesn't really work...
This movie can be side-splittingly funny whenever it uses humor. I was very surprised how hard I laughed. Tits.
Oh no, your archaic and powerless king has a stutter. How exciting.
Well done on the opinion. :downs:
Well it is based on a true story, and it did end in war. The 'good' part was that he pretty much resolved his stutter... which he did IRL. SOOOOoo
It made it seem like he won the war for the British. The speech itself was pretty mediocre. [editline]23rd March 2011[/editline]
If you think about it, he talked his people into going into another war. Not quite the happy ending for me.
No he didn't. He had no say in what the country does.
yeah but that too was the actual speech. it was about him over coming personal obstacles and shit gosh do i really have to explain this? it was more about his relationship with his family and the detrimental effect it had on him, CAUSING the stutter. not about the stutter itself. [editline]24th March 2011[/editline] what you inferred about the surrounding war events wasn't the point of the movie
it was more about his relationship with his family and the detrimental effect it had on him, CAUSING the stutter. not about the stutter itself.
It was pretty obvious that it was the basis of the movie. I don't see how someone could say otherwise. :raise:
well sp00ks seems pretty hung up on pretty irrelevant stuff
I just said I thought the ending was too happy with them going to war and millions of people dying, but it's okay because he can speak without stuttering now.
I just said I thought the ending was too happy with them going to war and millions of people dying, but it's okay because he can speak without stuttering now.
Yeah, that's not what the movie is meant to be about. Read the title of the movie again. :smug:
So because it is not the main theme of the movie, you can just do whatever the fuck you want with it?
So because it is not the main theme of the movie, you can just do whatever the fuck you want with it?
Yes, sir... Movies are meant to be seen as expressive arts and not documentaries unless it was intended. [editline]23rd March 2011[/editline] Otherwise they would've called the movie "King George VI"
Kind of that, but also because the internal conflict was resolved. Imagine if the movie still had a sad ending regardless of such. It would have felt like a complete waste of time where nothing was resolved and it wouldn't have felt finished. And besides, the narrative coincided with the timeline. They didn't have foresight on just how bad the war was. Just that he needed to step up to fight the good fight. Imagine how shitty it might have gone if he HADN'T resolved his stutter AND went to war.
Sad that he did in the end die because of his excessive smoking.
I missed the chance to see this in my local movie theatre. :smith:
Sad that he did in the end die because of his excessive smoking.
i wouldnt know ive never given a fuck about history in the slightest
I could relate to the King so i know what he felt. I don't stammer. But i do lock up speaking to groups of people. Am i wrong if i compare it Forrest gump?
I liked the movie, even more when I listened to the ACTUAL speech, collin firth executed it perfectly. I don't feel it deserve best movie, however.
I wonder if my local theater is still showing this.
it just doesn't sound very interesting.
It's better to not judge before you see with this one. I almost didn't watch it for that reason.
I guess that's true. I'm not too fond of westerns myself, but True Grit was my favorite movie of 2010.
Watch Unforgiven.
I did. Film class of last year. It was alright. I haven't got much to compare it to, plus I just can't get into them for some reason. It's kind of like most Sci-Fi movies.
You don't like Westerns or Sci Fi's? :saddowns: Those are two of my favourite genres of movie.
Don't want to comment about style? Fair enough, you've had a long day. :downs:
Having cool style doesn't make up for a boring script and mediocre directing. Don't get me wrong this was a good movie, but nothing about it besides Colin's performance was particularly special
Is it bad that my first thought at the part where [sp]they shouted out the window in the therapist's office[/sp] was this?: [sp]"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa"[/sp]
Its sad that not much people know who Lionel Logue was, until this movie came out.
