Science is based on bullshit lies and faith.

Okey, well it's not like that jumps up in my face and tells me how wrong science is and how right religion is. I've never heard of that before, nor do I care about it.
Science and religion owe a lot to each other.

I don't get it.

For instance, the Muslim world is repsonsible for much of Algebra, Trigonometry, and Calculus, among much, much more, spanning several fields of study. Much of the modern world would not be possible if it weren't for Muslims.
Religion is also a problem because it encourages people to not think for themselves and try themselves down to ideals that someone else has made for them.
One of my concerns along the whole 'ideals' thing is that most religions are based on ideals and morals that were written thousands of years ago. I stick to what I usually say, human nature never changes, but it's ideals do. The average person nowadays isn't living in anywhere near the same conditions as the people who started the religion, so why should they try to adapt to what could be considered ancient practices? Some parts of religious books are ridiculous too, the shunning of anyone who doesn't want to follow in a certain way comes across in a few of the main religions, and I'm sure I read part in the bible that said to nail your servants ear to the door frame if they don't want to leave after 10 years.
I've also wondered that if god did indeed create the universe and everything in it, why we have to thank him constantly for it.
Science >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Religion

I don't think them being Muslim made a direct impact on that.
Religion doesn't encourage people to not think for themselves, it actually says the opposite... In many cases.
The bible tells you that you should help people no matter their wealth or what they've done and to do what you think is right instead of just following the crowd.
Scientific advances in the Muslim world were more because said people who made the advances didn't have to work constantly like most other people. Civilisation means you don't have to work all the time, meaning you have more time to think about the world.
How could we possibly have Intelligent Design & be created 'in gods image' when OP is an idiot?
I don't think them being Muslim made a direct impact on that.
It came out of the Muslim world. My point was that during a time where religion was supreme, exceptional scientific and mathematical advances came to light. The idea that the religion quelled these advances is simply untrue.
"Not this shit again".

You're still doing what the religion tells you too. While I can't go against morals, which are the only bit of religion that you should take seriously, you need to make up your own mind about things rather than being fed them.

Is it wrong to follow a path or do what someone says? The school taught me how to count and how to read, why can't religion teach me to follow my morals?

If you think religion is telling you the wrong thing, don't listen. It's not like you let yourself be brainwashed.
It's stupid shit like this that makes me hate GD.
Who cares who believes in what. Get on with your life stop worrying about others. Congratu-fuckin-lations you're a rebel who went against their parents and doesn't believe in god anymore no one gives a fuck.
op is gay
If you ask me, a Roman Catholic, I don't care what religion you are. But as soon as you start being a militant asshole and start throwing your shit around, I start to hate you. I dislike Westboro just as much as I dislike Dawkins.
Religion isn't the problem, militant religion is the problem. It may be inevitable, but as long as there are two groups of people who disagree with each other, there is gonna be bloodshed. That's human nature, and it doesn't pertain only to religion.
Militant religion (and militant anti-theism) is still disgusting, and I find it ironic to see militant anti-theists perpetuating the very thing they say they hate. Prejudice, bias, and even violence just because of religion.
I swear every religious person ever argued with spouts that line and ends the argument by avoiding previous points. I'm not taking a stab at you but fucking hell I've seen it too many times, it's a fad taken on by the less educated to avoid intellectual destruction.

Stop right there.
Majority of Facepunch kids are just bandwagoning the idea of atheism anyway, denying god and thinking they are smart by pasting some facts from the interwebs.
Anyway, the laws of man are written in paper.
The laws of god are carved in stone, and if you break them, instead of prison you'll go to hell. Motherfucker.

Also; shut the fuck up, you are not welcome here.
Believe in what you want to believe, but leave the others people beliefs alone. That's what mature people do.

So if someone believes that 1+1=3 is ok and should be respected?
Yes, religion has morals. It kinda revolves around them. Just because religious people don't always have them doesn't mean they're not there. Also, each "religion sucks" thread is getting shittier and shittier.
