Well, you want to make sure you have a rake and a shovel and some seeds somewhere if you want to make a farm. Seeds are usually found by Botanizing grass panels, harvesting farmed plants, or from other players. Activate a shovel and choose Pack on the grass to pack it. THen choose Cultivate to loosen the dirt for planting. Activate the seed, choose the dirt and select Plant. This may fail, but if it didn't then you have some crops growing. Every day or so choose to Farm the crop(s) with the Rake to keep weeds away and the crop healthy. When it has golden stalks it's ripe for harvesting. To prevent idiots from stealing your drops or destroying them, build some Stone Walls or Wooden Fences to keep your crops in.

A) It takes a really long time.
B) They are not difficult creatures
C) It's a nearby hunting source

It would take longer to bash the spawns (which hurts the village) than it would be to post the location of said creature and have them dealt with.
