I can't find the article but I am pretty sure the devs are offering everyone who bought the game a full refund and they have taken it off the shelves
Hello Neighbor is still on Steam, if that's what you meant by taking it off the shelves

Pretty sure you’re thinking of We Happy Few, another indie game that met with disappointment after it promised a lot and struggled to deliver.
What an insanely generic plot
I know horror games aren't always the best written but damn that's a pisspoor excuse for a mystery
I can't believe the game actually fucking came out
I can't believe the game actually fucking came out
I would go as far as to say it came out too soon
[editline]24th January 2018[/editline]
It still looks like a game that'd be a better fit as an early access title tbh

That's easy to do when you have no integrity and are comfortable releasing a tech demo.
this looks like it's so shamelessly trying to cash in on Five Nights at Freddy's about four years after it stopped being relevant.
The whole change to a weird maze house genuinely feels like it was done to hide the fact that the AI is fucking atrocious.
after just playing through alien: isolation. the AI in that is fucking superb
fucking superb indeed.

no shit when you fuck around and dont really play it like a horror game that you can break an AI. when you play it like youre supposed to its leagues ahead of this shitty game

i never had any moments where the AI would do something silly, and you know why? i actually played it like a horror game (because i was actually spooked) and didnt play it like joel did. not saying he is a bad person for playing it like that, since hes doing it just for laughs on a stream, but dont use a stream where the player is fucking around to gauge how good the AI is.
oh and he is also apparently playing on easy? the difficulty in A:I actually changes the behavior of the creature, making it progressively smarter. so maybe dont use an example thats on the easiest difficulty?
Why does the main character look like Rodney Dangerfield
For some reason I swear this was a game was supposed to be multiplayer and made by a facepuncher. I thought i remember the gameplay was supposed to be figuring out/stealing secrets from your rival neighbor's house while defending your own. Did they change something? Am I getting early-onset dementia?
you're thinking of Castle Doctrine

While that is true, Critikal here wasn't playing the game the way it's designed either. Not really sure how bad the AI is there (And the [sp]coma thing is a fucking cop-out[/sp]), I do remember that he would teleport onto the player in one of the betas, but the bad AI shown here is mainly due to all the sequence-breaking and prop boosting.

Did not know that, thank you for the info.

It feels like they set a release date (which was originally actually earlier), realized the game wouldn't be ready, bumped the release date further optimistically thinking that the game would be ready, but it still wasn't and at this point they didn't want to delay it any further. It should've at least stayed in early access until people were feeling like the game was getting to a point where it was fun to play and there were no major bugs, but all the YouTubers just before release were saying that it felt messy and unfinished

like people have already said, even if you play properly in hello neighbor the AI will go straight to your position and come to "investigate" (which entails coming to that area, look for 1 second, and immediately give up the search if he cannot find you)
its kinda horror game AI 101 where if you have a part where it can hear your sounds/put into its design that it will go to your area to "investigate", it should search AROUND that immediate area too, not just go for the exact xyz of where that sound/position was, see that the player isnt in immediate sight, and give up right there and then. hello neighbor completely fails to do that.
This game is a complete failure and I hope people stop giving it money to make fun of it
I saw merchandise of this game in Gamestop.
Boy, the merch company gambled wrong there.
I work in an amazon warehouse and the amount of 'hello neighbor' merch I've seen is more than someone should see in a life time.

It's a failure in terms of the release, it could still be revived in updates, sorta like NMS

NMs is still trash and it still runs like garbage
Also slightly off topic but I'm not so big on Critikals shift into streaming. I dig his videos more when it's just him one on one with a game getting real weird. Now that he's started streaming I feel like that spark is gone.
I'll still always love the dude though.
Unfortunately due to Youtube's rapid sinking into absolute trash, Twitch is a lifeboat at this point that a lot of content creators desperately need for reliable income.
This was also the devs first PC game they made. They were just mobile developers previously.
Yeeaaah this all makes total sense now

Except Hello Neighbor doesn't deserve respect.
