I think it's because there's no fold over the upper eyelid. The top half of the eye socket is usually quite fleshy, whereas yours is very inset. The transition to the brow looks really quite sharp and steep, try using something like this

I'd say the rest of it looks good. I'd maybe broaden the neck a little, and add on a bit more of the shoulder. The face is so masculine and strong, I think adding in some strong shoulders could add a lot more to it.
You're right
Now it looks way better with the folds.
Still, needs more polishing but it looks more natural. However, it's gonna be tricky to do it without deforming too much the topology.
Might have to do retopo

Thanks for the new lock screen image.
Alright so I am very very new to 3d modeling, I have about 3 months experience in zbrush and that is about it. I currently have 3dsmax 2013, maya 2012, and cinema 4d r13 installed on my computer along with blender, however I am wondering if you guys can tell me the strengths and weaknesses of them if possible. I figure i will most likely work with 3dsmax, as the UI seems the easiest for me to grasp there. Additionally, is there any very stupid newbie mistakes I should avoid?

This question is asked like every 10 pages or so.
Short answer is take your pick they will all get the job done if you know what you're doing.
There are so many stupid newbie mistakes everybody has done one of them even if they've read and watched most tutorials out there. Easiest way to avoid mistakes is to do research and ask questions when you're stuck. Not the other way around. Unless you have something specific on your mind ofcourse but giving an all round answer to avoid some general mistake is quite hard since it can be anything really.
Oh yeah that's one. Asking before googling.
Iv'e started looking at blender after giving up on Autodesk (mainly seen as my Windows computer is in the living room, and my dad bitches at me constantly) and for something that is free it is fucking fantastic. I had no idea it did camera tracking and compositing.
I'd say blender is the best to learn with seen as it's so user friendly but Max and Maya are definitely the way to go if your going to take it seriously.
What is a good rendering program, like Marmoset Toolbag?

You don't really need a dedicated render, unless you're gonna do particle simulations..
MentalRay is more then good enough...
New sculpt + experimenting with fibermesh and grooming

I'm shit at using it and have no idea how do get in custom normal maps and specular etc

I take it seriously but I still stick to blender. I don't see why not since it doesn't really lack anything that Max or Maya has. In fact it has a lot of features they don't.
From what I've heard and seen some companies have moved away from Autodesk as well and use Softimage or Modo for example.

but mental ray is on offline renderer so why even suggest it??? he clearly wants a realtime renderer
anyways rusty i dont use marmoset but it's a fantastic rendering tool and I love the results it produces. they have a lot of good documentation here: http://www.8monkeylabs.com/toolbag/learn
also I recommend using full game engines ie UDK/CE3 or realtime 3ds max shaders such as 3-point and xoliul 2 (my personal favorite and free)
i was already using marmoset and the reason i need another is because the trail ran out
oh well damn it used to have a free version my b
all of my suggestions are the most used in industry and are free or have free versions
i recommend xoliulshader 2 and make sure to get the viewport grabber that's on this page: http://www.laurenscorijn.com/viewportshader
the xoliulshader 2 website seems to be down but you can likely find a link online and if not i'll pm you the files right now.
You'll never fucking guess what just happened...
So I got a missed call from my mum who left an answerphone message, I went to listen to it... only to discover I had 2 messages. I didnt remember any other calls but I started listening.
It was the recruiter from Axis Animation, (who done the Dead Island trailer). They are my number one choice for jobs at the moment so my heart was pounding as I listened. She offered me a job and asked to call her back to sort it out.
Then I realised she'd left the message 3 fucking weeks ago. Got in touch with her, and they'd given it to somebody else. Fucking gutted :(
Reckon I'm gonna have to just head down to London for work.
Sorry to hear that man, I'm also on the job hunt after graduating from uni and finish at Escape.
I recommend using CG Studio Map to find all the companies to apply for.
If you're ever in London, let me know!

It's a wheel!
Blender just got a new fracture addon based on voronoi cells.
So I threw a few test together in a video. Nothing special.
[hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpZakIatDQI[/hd]
It confuses me that Autodesk can't implement these simple, effective features in any of their thousand-dollar programs... when Blender has them for free.
That's one problem I have with commercial software.
You have to buy all the extra plugins from other companies.
If you want a good fracture addon you have to buy RayFire for 3DS Max.
Yes, 3DS Max isn't supposed to do all the stuff Blender can and RayFire is way more advanced than the simple fracture tools you have in Blender but it's still kind of stupid.
Especially if I want to learn how to use these tools. 3DS Max has a free educational version but for RayFire you have to pay 325$ for an educational license.
I can't just download the software and play around with it.
I'm having a small problem where 3ds max won't let me undo, it's only on some models and it happens randomly. The only way I can fix it is restarting but is there some sort of key binding that disables undo?

Tested another option to make some kind of point shard with a child object.
Creates smaller shards at the collision to make the shattering a bit more realistic.
Replace the ball with the koolaid jug

In the first clip you can see it's prefractured already before hitting the ground. Is there an option to fracture it on collision only?
In the first clip you can see it's prefractured already before hitting the ground. Is there an option to fracture it on collision only?
No there isn't, unfortunately. I learned from Mitsuma that a good trick is to hide the fractured mesh with the original mesh until the collision.
I made a test, and let it render overnight. Or so I thought...
Windows Update had other plans.
Edited together a first draft showreel of my work, any feedback?
