dude i modeled it specfically off the specficuatations given to me by my uncle who works at glock
I just discovered if you select two faces in Blender and press "make face", it combines them, preserving UV coordinates.
That horrible yet wonderful feel that a good portion of your life could have been so much easier.

Blaaah, rough draft of an idea I had earlier today. Gonna work on making a full short out of it.
I feel weird posting these animation tests while everyone else is making these fantastic models left and right.

Is that using a CAT rig? It's looking good so far.

Coming up with ideas and drafts for shorts is just as an important skill as modelling. Each part of te creative process is as important as the next.
There's nothing wrong with what your doing at all, looking great!
I tried animating once.

reminds me a lot of sparkwire's joke/glitched up galactopticon animations.

Looks quite good :)
You have a great sense of speed and weight, and the frontflip is pretty darn fluid.
Even though it's just a draft, you should think about the balance in every stance, in the beginning he's quite off balanced and would tip over. Especially considering he has a flame thrower that probably weighs about 10-20 kg. :)
Keep it up, and with ideas like this you should consider making shorts, with a modelled and rigged character.
Doesn't need to be anything advanced.
But somewhat I'm doing with my Paul character. :)

Might have made it a little next gen with the bloom on the lights but I'm happy with the results.

Thanks, and it was done with Cinema4D's IK rigging. Haven't used CAT a whole lot so I can't really compare the two.

first attempt at subdivision modeling or w/e you guys call it, it's pretty horrible (especially compared to you guys' shit) but I'm getting there
I thought you guys might enjoy this guy's 3D art http://www.artpanda.co.uk/3dpages/luigi.htm

Bwahaha.

ahhhhh subdivision makes everything easy, still looks horrid considering its high poly but oh well im happy with it :D
Could you post a wireframe? Because it seems you're doing something wrong...
I probably am, all my friend told me to do was make a multires. modifier and kick it up a few times. I'm kinda sure it's the absolute wrong way to do it, but it's fun as fuck.
well im sure this is useful

Multires? uwotm8
Use subsurf, and in the 'n' popup menu, Increase the median crease on edges that are not mean to be smoothed.
Oh gosh HDR how do I work this thing. I can't even get specular to work right.

Also wireframe.

Can you tell us the amount of polys that is?
There's so many it's solid black :v:

It looks like you have some pinching at the top corners of the front windshield.

There's a LOT of useless polygons there. Every edgeloop that doesn't affect your silhouette is pretty much useless. Like the most in the middle of the body.

UVs are mirrored, I'm well under the poly budget so saving on texture size became more important.
It's not really apparent from that angle, but the Huey has a pretty distinct shape to it.

In addition, I'm going to be making a ton of LODs, which will remove most of those loops at appropriate distances.

Fixed, thanks for pointing that out.
It's been a while

I think I'm gonna go ahead call that Huey a practice model, and move on to others, then eventually come back to it.
