the metal starts to look like stone on the cylinder and the grips look like a really lazy normal map overlay job. i can't tell what the grip material is or if it's supposed to be some kind of weave.

The grip is just some generic cloth strips weaved together.

I hate them too. I don't plan to do many panels, just the largest ones and then maybe add the smaller ones by texture.
