I can't wait to see the CG in the Hobbit. Also WIP B2-Model for Outerra. ~2.5k tris. Will be 5k with the cockpit. Also if someone could answer this for me. Models don't have to be sealed for most game engines right?
Just done a LOTR marathon (extended.... obviously) and it's incredible how well the majority of the CG has aged. I can't believe that was over 10 years ago.
Just did a Lost S1-4 marathon. And the CG is terrible now I see it again.
Ugh these textures.. I don't like em
Ugh these textures.. I don't like em
What's wrong with them? They look great.
Also if someone could answer this for me. Models don't have to be sealed for most game engines right?
No they don't. Floating geometry saves so much polys that it would be very inefficient to attach every piece to one another. Imagine adding rivets to a flat plane with geometry. If you'd model the rivets to actually be part of the plane the plane would have hundreds of polys instead of the two default triangles.

Hey for my video I made these 3D models and animated some! Check it out :D
So you folks probably know this better than me; I have very little experience in 3D modelling, texturing etc, yet it's something that seems like an interesting job to have in the future. I'm now soon done with high school, and I'd like to pick 3D filmproduction to continue with for 3 years in the future. I know I'm going to learn much more by actually being in the same room as someone who is experienced, but i's really expensive. Around $53 439 for the three years, plus having to rent an apartment, which is also going to be expensive. It's either that or regular filmproduction at a university, which will be free. Is it really necessary to have an education in order to get a job within the industry, as long as you know what you're doing and have a good portfolio to show?
Just make good stuff and no one will ask which school you went bro! :D It's not time wasted though.
There's barely any 3D schools here in Norway. None close to where I live :/ There's only expensive ones, so I'm tempted because I want to learn yet not so much because of price and location.
Never really modeled anything organic. This is the base mesh of a Wizard that I am making for a school project. Base mesh, as in, fugly blocky character that will be sculpted on in Zbrush and hopefully made less fugly. Looks good Pie man. :)
My Remington as it stands so far. Does anyone have any tips on making good looking normals? Mine are satisfactory at the minute but I know I can get them looking much nicer.

Don't go into debt for a degree that might not be worth it. I've seen people that model 8+ hours a day at home, during that time they made a superb portfolio and with that they got a job.
I've seen a lot of very good stuff here, and I don't doubt it's up to the industry standard.
Which do you prefer: V1: V2 Others:
edit: nevermind, solved it :)

Started on this a few hours ago.. Pretty simple thing to model :p

Shitty viewport render I did.
Spent Sunday and yesterday working on this, totally rebuilt my "Arab City Set 02" this time low poly. It's very low poly but very convincing still. The original model was 876,000 polygons, this new tile is a whopping 64,000 and that's with the road system from the high poly taking up 10,000 polygons alone. Now for some ballin textures
Okay... Ajacks, what is it you do exactly? Freelance work? It's amazing. You're amazing. Have whatever money that I'm not already giving to GabeN.
Just playing around with my fun low poly. Very entertaining, and Woolio, I sell on turbosquid (at the same time building quite an extensive portfolio as well) Nothing to major, just enough to keep me from having to work elsewhere and gives me enough money for toys. Currently I'm a full time university student, thinking of going for my doctorate in fine arts. (Makes me want to model a mosque and do a terrain wrap around card, and not frame my renders with two identical buildings right next to each other, I'm usually pretty good about that, lol.)
[editline]6th March 2012[/editline] ajacks i order you to go back to your NYC set.
I like the Arabian theme. Has a neat Battlefield look to it. In fact, I bet those models are probably on-par for video game assets.
