is your point that the only time CA looks good is when you can't see it?
"nobody in this thread has achieved such a thing."
it's that everyone who is trying to say CA can look good isn't using it the way they're showing in the examples they're giving. there's something obviously wrong with that. why is there huge disparity from the examples given of it being used well to everybody's work posted in this thread? if they can find examples where it's used well, then why haven't they been doing it like that from the start?
because your view of "using it well" differs from other people's "using it well"
ie i think killzone 2/3's use of postprocess was excellent but you probably won't because it's super strong
then why are they calling it a "good use of CA" and for the other example "I think it works really well"
im fine with a differing of opinions but i think everyone can probably agree there's a point at which something objectively becomes a distraction rather than a feature.
tangentially i don't really like killzone's postprocess except for the snow level (levels?) which i think looks pretty good as it reinforces the feeling of being in a war stricken snowy environment. i haven't played much killzone though i don't own a playstation

No one claimed they had used CA well or complemented eachother on the use of CA. The only point I tried to make was that you can make it look good, not that it has been used well in this thread. I personally don't really even use CA since I have found it often looks better without.
But whatever, you're at least as stubborn as me so this discussion will probably not go anywhere.
i didnt say anyone claimed to use it well, but isn't that the goal of us as artists? to use what we have at our disposal well?
im saying that for those of us in this thread that have been posting work using CA, they have been using it without any sense of moderation, no thought over whether or not it works or does not work with their pieces. i want people to see that it's something that should be thought about more than just slapped on. does it compliment the aesthetics of your piece? does it need to be toned down or increased? things like this i don't see being considered.

this too
This is one of those things where people say "CA is bad don't use it" but what they really mean is "if you try to use CA you'll use it wrong so don't use it until you're good enough at this that you're not listening to our advice anymore"
It is a fine distinction
can someone link me to a good tutorial on fluid sims in blender that doesn't waste my time beating around the bush/have an unbearable voice?

I don't know why it's dumb to say you're stubborn, you are, and so are a lot of people here. Me included. Being able to admit when you're wrong divides the douches from the smart asses though.
Anyway.
You said you didn't like CA and it's barely ever used well, so you got some examples where it was used well. I'm not arguing against anything else you said just that it's not always a horrible thing if you know what you're doing.
It seems your stance has shifted from "I hate CA" to "People should think why they use CA". The second remark was sort of what everyone else was already saying so this is looping back to the start.
Her face was the first time I've tried plane modelling in Maya, so it's not so good, but not totally terrible either. UV mapping in Maya is also way different than 3ds max, so I haven't painted her face. I just selected the faces and applied different materials for the time being. The only thing textured is her body, and she has a spool because the class project required a three-part spider.
Her lips are terrible, I know, it's hard to find any good reference pictures of her. I'm very happy with the boots though.

Oh dur, I didn't say who it was. It's Miss Spider, she's from James and the Giant Peach.
Dude that movie was my jam. Centipede ruled.

Everything is cement in the HL universe, it's the water that makes you forget, they put something in it, don't drink the water.
one side of my computer room's power went out. the plugs on the wall don't work at all and i flipped the breaker and everything. thankfully this room has two separate breakers so i just ran an extension cord to the other side of the room lmao

Probably a dumb question, but I'm messing around in Maya with a cloth texture and the top of the cloth keeps rendering out distorted and without the detail like the sides.
Anybody know how to fix this?

It's either a problem with filtering, as seen on top of the table, or too little stretch resistance in the cloth "material".
Edit:

Had fun making this with some college friends.

I think think this needs more color. The casing part on top could be blue or something.
I've been doing Cinema 4D alot now and I want to try something else.
Anyone has any softwares you recommend?

Depends on what you want to do. If you want to do a lot of rigging/animating and whatnot, I'd suggest Maya. If you want to do modelling and such, go for 3DS Max. If you want particle effects, check out Houdini or Particular for After Effects.

Then 3DS MAX there is!
I just want to say 3ds Max is satan incarnate and nobody should use it for anything
Some people evidently disagree, though
better than maya for modeling
