ok so i'm trying to make a human again and i have gotten pretty far: but there's a problem with the proportions/anatomy from the front, the side, it's perfect with the anatomy reference I used but somewhere along the line, I fucked up the front, would anyone be willing to do a paintover or something to help me? i want this to be finished so i can make the scene i'm trying to make. rate funny if you want i know it looks like a mongoloid but i seriously need help.
use muscular and bone reference in addition to normal ass reference photos. you need to understand how the muscles and bones and everything are laid out under the skin because the skin is shaped by them, giving it its form.
i did i looked at muscular anatomy and then used normal reference photos to go directly off of. course obviously i didn't do that for the front, you think I should?
Too late for me to grab my wacom but a side by side view shows where you went wrong. The hip is too far up, the legs are too scrawny, shoulders too broad, chest doesn't sit right, no calf muscles, legs like toothpicks. Keep improving on it though, you have to start somewhere - try drawing individual forms and looking into L'ecorché [editline]29th December 2012[/editline] Also try making it in Sculptris if you can't get Zbrush, helps a lot.
like, i wasn't going to laugh at the penis, i was more mature than that then you spelled "lol" with it you've put me in a bind good sir. also, thanks for the side by side, i'm going to do a paintover using that. thanks
Also try making an 8-head mesh, it's sometimes frowned upon for some reason (probably due to people always ending up the same size) but for starting out it's really useful. The tutorial is done in maya but I'm sure the process is easily transferable to Blender. Just give me a minute to upload it, UK internet etc etc.
an 8 head...mesh? the picture i have in my mind does not seem anatomically correct.
It's a basemesh you use to sculpt on in a sculpting tool. http://www.pixologic.com/sculptris/ Use this, it's by the same company that makes Zbrush but this is their "free" version.

I don't like using it because there's a shitload of buttons I can't figure out, camera controls are weird, and I press buttons and I don't know how to undo them. I tried a few tutorials but the controls always make everything so hard.
Okay, but you really should get used to it. Here's the tutorial: http://www.mediafire.com/?yz9bmd8uep689lb
be thankful u have zbrush and not mudbox zbrush is a god among 3d apps

y u doing this to 3d industry ?
it really doesn't fit on a zbrush model that's like millions of polys
hmm maybe so. i like experimenting with intertwining elements from 2D art with 3D art and vice versa, but ye i see what you mean.
i always get the feeling you do it because detlef did it you [..]
kind of. much because of the guy that does the fascist comics (cant remember his name!) and did it before detlef did it, but mainly because of my sexual obsession with red-faced handsome french girls, as chesty said

Damn I love that feeling you get after you've finished modeling and you take a step back and just look at the thing and you're like whoa I made that.

Its probably not that impressive compared to the other (GODLIKE Damn you guys are good) creations posted in this thread but im happy with it. Its a shockcannon that would be mounted on a 40k ork battlewagon. I feel I learned a lot modeling this. I have a better understanding now of good mesh structure for subdivision
you should post the wires. it looks very clean from the render tho so good job. As a bit of crit i can give now: I feel like it needs more detail in it to make it more interesting. The silhouette is pretty basic and could do with some small details to give it a bit more sense of volume. It also has too many flat areas for me, leaving me with feeling like i've got too much space for my eyes to rest on. If you break up the larger shapes and make sure to leave some areas of rest i think it'll be a lot more interesting
Yeah I was thinking that too but im pretty happy how it is. 40k models have exaggerated shapes and details to make them stand out more at a miniature scale. They tend to look more blocky and basic shaped so the painter has a lot of options to make it visually interesting. Heres an example of what I mean. I'm planning on making it look nicer via the texturing.
Their detail is actually so it's easier to get out of the printing machines :v:

I'm planning on making it look nicer via the texturing.
my suggestion is that you try to do as much as you can in your high poly model. i know the designs are meant to stand out on the miniature, but a lot of the detail that a painter adds onto the figures could be done in the model, like small scratched or tiny bolts or other fine details. the thing that i think should be worked on for this gun is using details to sell it as actual size. currently the piece reads kind of as a miniature, because its so heavily based on the minis, instead of real world scale like it should. it throws off my sense of scale.
Does anyone know of a way to make 3ds Max's camera controls similar/the same as Blender's? It's camera is extremely confusing and I would be able to learn so much better if I was able to change it.
[thumb]http://i.imgur.com/7oe0M.jpg[/IMG][/thumb] modified portal gun design. a couple hours worth of 3d animation class down the drain.
That's pretty cool, I like the design of the shell and beam. Got a little inspired by this, started modeling my own portal gun: [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/s/gqk1c10hp78gxi8/Po'alGunWIP_01.jpg[/thumb] But then I got bored and instead started sculpting an alien-mouth-thingy: [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/s/c2lckmkuqocpjue/AlienMouthWIP2.jpg[/thumb] But then I got bored again and now I'm playing Far Cry 3... Edit: [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/s/cbp0zwhan276xrh/AlienMouthE3D.jpg[/thumb] Imported it into Element3D.
