Since my college classes are 1 month away, I wanted to get a head start at 3D modelling, since it's what I'll mostly do. I imagine Blender is better to start off with, right? I'm still at a newbie level. Aside from those resources on the OP, are there any other places where I could get more information regarding 3D modelling topics? Also, the work of people around here is absolutely fabulous. I want to be like you guys when I get more experience.
Well, what program will your college utilize? You should probably go for that one.
Probably Maya or Blender. I guess I'll stick to Blender to learn the basics first.
Probably Maya or Blender. I guess I'll stick to Blender to learn the basics first.
I'd guess Maya. It's of professional standard, and overlaps with a lot of different industries. The modelling part in it is atrocious though. Then again, it was never really made for that.
been a few days since last post. This is day 98 of my 100 days project: [thumb]http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QRgIIa-Bm8s/UONRa71eXNI/AAAAAAAAAl0/HfZGADV12Ec/s1600/dag98.png[/thumb] Lazore3d.blogspot.com
Very nice, and also strange to see something so familiar in a 3D render. Kudos for sticking with the 100 day project, and coming up with so much creative stuff. (Hadde jeg hatt viljestyrken, skulle jeg gjerne prøvd meg på dette selv!)

Is google sketchup acceptable in this thread? :v:
Made a small wintery/christmassy scene:
Quite a story here with the santa stuck in the pipe. He was a bit hard to detect and I had to follow the footsteps in the snow untill I could see what was going on. Almost like reading a panel comic :P However for a such nice concept there is a lot of room for improvement. The render itself isnt bad, but a good round in photoshop to help to express the winter cold christmasy mood. A simple turning the black more towards blue would be a big improvement, then there are other stuff like a more even night sky with more stars, stronger rim light from the moon, bluer snow, yellow'er light cast from windows, etc.

I want it too be inviting. Made an image with a brighter roof:

Hmm I get your point... Maybe the term I'm looking for is under exposed. I took the liberty and took your first render a tour in photoshop, forgive my bold ways, but a picture speaks better than texts in this case ;) In short what I did was to brighten the exposure quite high with the curve tool, and then turn the overall image more saturated blue with a hint of purple. I tried not too lose the yellow/orangish lights, but rather enhance the orange color in the light hitting the snow. When mixing cold blue snow with warm colored lights, its a common mistake to let the render mix it to green. It's kinda hard to see it, but a simple hue change helps to turn that green back to yellow/orange.
Just gonna leave this here.

But its no where near as good as your example. Could you go more in depth in how you got the snow in front of the house too look like it does in your image, i would really appreciate it! Edit: This is where I'm at the moment, ill continue on it tomorrow:
Looks great! My only last initial thought at this point is the snow filled roof looks too evenly lit throughout its whole surface. Because of that, it makes the smaller roof above the door blend seamlessly in with the main roof. Try adding a gradient either in photoshop or in the render (light falloff) coming from left to right to get rid of the big dull flat evenly lit roof shape. EDIT: added picture for clarification. Also, my mistake, I see I overdid the brightness of the snow on the ground very burned out. Could look better to tone that part down a lil.
Okay brain what part of you said sculpting a hand would be easy you arse.
That house is made in C4D right?
That house is made in C4D right?
Modeled in Maya and rendered in Modo, and some post in photoshop.
I'm working on a 3d model of a drum set. This is my first more complex model made in maya. Currently I'm done with the bass. Made some fast AO renders. What do you think? :eng101: Also, a little FYI. The only time I used the Smooth is for that little hole on the side. Other by that I haven't used it at all. Sorry for my lame English, btw :v:
could you do a render with phong and no lines?
could you do a render with phong and no lines?
Sure.
Im done with my 100 days project! http://lazore3d.blogspot.no/?view=classic
Remember when i said that i had finished my "post" work on that house? I lied, and this is the latest result(now in HD): http://nukeaduke.com/img/husHQ.jpg
santas dress folding over the edge looks kinda weird, having a hard time imagining how it actually would look. Rest of the image is splendid, really like it
Im done with my 100 days project! http://lazore3d.blogspot.no/?view=classic
Wow dude, very cool! Congrats :D If I had known you were doing a 100 day project I would have followed you via your blog. Keep up the great work!
You guys are so talented if I could give all of you guys 100 winner ratings I would. I will never get to that level without some sort of classes. Remember me? I'm that guy who made Mars. After a few months off of Blender I have lost most of my memory on how to run it but I quickly regained my knowing of the program and made a quick practice model that I would ultimately turn into an actual model within a few days, weeks, or months. [t]http://i.imgur.com/MGPqO.png[/t] I am craving criticism for I have restarted and am slightly retarded with the program. [editline]3rd January 2013[/editline] [t]http://i.imgur.com/68f59.png[/t] Oh looky, I finished the basic model! Now it's time to fix up those posing problems and make this good as in give it skin and actual properties! Criticism please.
So I felt like testing DDO today. Pretty nice program, but I doesn't beat doing the whole thing yourself. Still a damn impressive program. This texturing job was all done in DDO. I didnt do any post editing or whatnot with the maps.
Looks nice, but what exactly is DDO? I tried google but only found dungeon and dragons online.
Looks nice, but what exactly is DDO? I tried google but only found dungeon and dragons online.
If you play that game long enough it will actually texture models for you.
Some people are badass enough to code their own 3D modelling program Some people are badass enough to do all their 3D modelling in notepad Some people are badass enough to do all their 3D modelling in Dungeons and Dragons online
