After a very long time of inactivity, my last mediocre render on my old pc.
Getting a 100M connection on tuesday, will post some epic rendered video stuff

kinda hard to see whats actually 3d about this. so not much to say about it then
Where should I look to getting started with Zbrush? I haven't really figured out how I learn best. Youtube videos haven't been working to well (or maybe I'm having trouble understanding them).

Got something good on mudbox? :D
Got something good on mudbox? :D
I personally don't like mudbox because it actually needs specific graphics cards in order to run. My computer is shit as a mothers mothers mothers mothers and I can run zBrush completely fine.

Well I use mudbox because I got it from the Autodesk Education Community. Also I heard it works good with maya.
Runs fine on mine.
Here's a room I made. Took a while to get it done.

Nice render, and a far more interesting viz room I've seen in a while :) Despite the dirty and rusty appearance of everything, you made it still look cozy in a way. Don't think I would mind to wake up here as long as I can wake up to that nice sun shining in.
Only critique I can come up with, is I'm feeling its missing some kind of atmosphere. A slight feel of slowly floating dust in the air, lit by the evening/morning sun or something.
Other than that, there are still some stuff and surfaces which looks brand new compared to the rest. such as the chair foot, the surveillance tv screen, and the light bulb.
Thank you and good points. I had the same dust mote thing in mind when I started this, but in the end I just forgot to add it. Clean vs. dirty surfaces too. In the end there were just so many materials that I simply forgot about which ones were done and which weren't. I might add some dust floating, but I consider this one already done. Thanks for the critique, it is noted!
Makes me think of Fallout
Anyway, that's a fantastic work you have done.

Maybe I'll try Mudbox again. From what I understand, people recommended Zbrush by far over Mudbox, but I think I may find the Mudbox UI more intuitive as I've been using Autodesk products for years.

Mudbox is pretty easy to use. ZBrush has a steeper learning curve, but in the end, is far more powerful. At least from what I've experienced. I'd say taking the time to learn ZBrush is worth it, but if you want to sculpt basic things, go for Mudbox. Also, Mudbox' scrape-tool is really nice. It makes making rocks and stones really easy.

Zbrush's UI wasn't designed for 3d artists, it was designed more for traditional sculpters and so forth.

They are it's just the AR can be fitted with several scopes, it's supposed to be fired in short bursts the attachments just make it specified for other uses.
Also how would I go about projecting an image onto a highpoly so it adds depth to it, like you'd engrave metalwork and so forth.

Haven't done one of these in a while. God I love fractals. Took 6 hours 22 minutes to netrender across two i7 computers.
That image makes me feel uneasy for some reason.. :x
Zbrush's UI wasn't designed for 3d artists, it was designed more for traditional sculpters and so forth.
No, it was designed to give you headaches :v:
In all seriousness, the only reason I haven't been able to learn ZBrush is because they tend to rearrange the UI with every version of the program. Also, it's so customizable that every video course I find has a different layout and the instructor seems to forget that the people learning are using the default layout so the stuff he's clicking on might not be on the same place as the people watching, it's really frustrating to watch a 1 hour long lesson and all of a sudden you have no idea what you did wrong because what's showing up on the instructors video isn't showing up on your program. I've never had issues like this on other programs.
I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but what is better, Mudbox or Zbrush?
I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but what is better, Mudbox or Zbrush?
As previously said, ZBrush is better but is much more difficult to learn and get used to.
Yeah. The sad truth is that, while ZBrush has a wide array of really cool and powerful tools, its UI is the most incomprehensible thing ever. Mudbox is incredibly user-friendly and is really good for basic sculpting, but lacks a lot of the more in-depth features that ZBrush has.
I'll be downloading Mudbox shortly. In the meantime:

What's going on here? Why's it being assigned to the faces rather than wrapping it around the object? I don't really know what I'm doing here.
By default, 3dsmax will use the whole area of a texture to cover each side of a box. Assuming you started this model from a box by the looks at it. If you want a texture to wrap around an object in a spesific way, you will need to unwrap the object first.

It has an Unwrap UVW modifier. What else do I need/need to change?
[editline]15th January 2013[/editline]
Oh, I lost my UV mapping. Interesting.
I don't have internet and I lost my flash drive, I can't show my work anymore :(

If you want to edit your model after unwrapping you have to collapse it or turn it into an editable mesh/poly which does the same thing. If you go down from uvw modifier to other modifiers it will fuck up the UV.
Quick question. If I used VRAYdisplacementmod on a sphere and in the modifier I set it to displace by 5cm, does that mean that the sphere will become 10cm thicker?
[editline]16th January 2013[/editline]
Also how do I go about something like this: dividing a very big texture (40k pixels) into four 10k pieces, and apply it to the model? Would I have to do some fancy business with the UV maps?
