My very first practice tries at 3Dart with Blender, tried it with self made textures right off the bat.
its a video game forum ofc theres gonna be shitloads of gun models
Not to mention guns are a popular choice for practising since their shapes are quite interesting.

And they can look fucking cool :v:
How can I make a vray material render 2-sided the same way the standard ones do?
Okay so I have no idea if this is where to post this, but I've been learning 3DS Max recently (like the last couple weeks) and I'm getting the basics down fairly well. The question I have is how to make shapes like shown in this video:

And a similar technique shown in this one:

I don't necessarily need to know both techniques, I just posted both in case somebody only knows one of them. I just haven't been able to find a tutorial online that explains this and I don't wanna spend another 3 hours looking. Thanks!
Looks like standard polygon modeling to me dude.

I know, but all I've seen is how to do it using just like the box or sphere (stuff like that, I mean physical objects) tool, I'd like to know how to do it using planes and lines.
Boy oh boy I sure love vray sun
Decided to give my first full model a try since I've only really done smaller, less complex models before. Still putting more detail into it here and there but overall I can't say I feel real happy with it. A few questions though, can anyone explain why the top of the turret opens up like that. I've remade it a heap of times and every time it still does that. Secondly, are those white lines around the front end and the muzzle break because of bad geometry? Lastly, what do you guys think of Lightwave? Using it currently due to my coursework requiring it and I feel comfortable using it but a lot of the time I see that people don't really hold it in high regard compared to 3ds or Maya.

Lightwave is much better suited to film work, it can be used for games but the plugins for export in to the game engines are few and far between.
I hope your tiger doesn't destroy my Sherman:

I made a wheel.
I like my wheel.

It's a sexy wheel.
So big and black, just the way I like it.
A WIP dieselpunk spaceship for our game thingy. Has some seams still.

It looks great, but not very spaceshippy.
It will once I slap some great big engines on the wings. :)
The model is nice and all but I feel like I've seen that exact design in a dozen other games.
Maybe because it's inspired by WW2 planes? The engines are gonna change the silhouette, trust me.
Where in 3dsmax can you change an edge to hard or soft? The only thing I can think of that can do something like that is smoothing groups but that's by polygon not edge so what I'm trying to do is impossible with that.
Right now I need to export a model into Wings3D just to do it (all you have to do is right click > hardness >soft/hard in wings3d)
Plane looks good.
Never really heard of dieselpunk until I played Sine Mora. They've got some awesome designs in that.
Wheel made some friends.

There really needs to be a general Digital 3D questions thread.
That's a nice render, but I question the functionality of the bottom shelf. I imagine that's a computer desk and the shelf would make sitting there and using computer really uncomfortable.

Nah your feet sit on the floor in front of it.

no textures yet.
Or smoothing groups.
