Thank very much for the helpful criticism. It's appreciated. :v:
I pretty much never texture as It was never asked of me, I was delegated just modelling the mesh and passing it down the development line. I'll keep tinkering.
Hey guys, Im having a bit of a problem with my mesh. It doesn't seem to want to apply smoothing groups. The Mesh already had some in place when I last worked on it but now they wont change and I can't apply any new ones.

Surrealism is allways acceptable in any circumstances

put an edit normals modifier on it, select all the normals, and hit the reset button. then you can collapse/convert it back to an editable poly. they probably got set to be explicit at some point, usually this happens when going from program to program
edit: left an e out in reset sry

You are a Scholar and a Gent.
WIP
Fully animated and 3D still have to find the curage to render the whole sequence

My school now has a Maker-Bot.
What is the point in having two 3D printers really? The school only has about 150 pupils anyway..

Would this work, for example, when I've combined two objects or collapsed a modifier and suddenly I have smoothing groups that show up visually but not in the smoothing groups list? I've had this happen a few times before and never did figure out how to fix it.
Anyone has a good tutorial for Cinema 4D modelling?

smoothing groups are just a way to show to the user how the normals are being projected from the model. they really don't mean anything other than to give you a more intuitive way to control vertex normals rather than manually merging and splitting them on a per vertex level (ie the edit normals modifier). editing on a per vertex level is making them explicit, so yes resetting the normals to be not explicit would make any errors be fixable with smoothing groups.

Alright, thanks a lot. I'd never really messed with an edit normals modifier but that will be very helpful next time I come across that problem.
One of my first attempts at animating a gun in Blender, first ever with actual hands in the mix

Models aren't mine.
So fancy!

The screws are annoying me, extrude the insides more so it has depth then it is epic :)
After 6 hours of rendering we have some results, now I only have to do 9 more...

gief wireframe on the screws!! :D
They look like Cylinders with Boolean cuts. Or is that the point?
it looks like they intersect with the underlying geo rather than the knocker having holes for the screws to go through. they sit too much on top of the surface too so it doesn't look screwed down.
the moral is always use refs
they should be recessesed in a bigger hole
i like to start from wikipedia and learn everything from a real world pov. it makes sure i always have everything grounded in reality, and gives the knowledge to go in new directions:

so I have a curve deformer on a shape in Blender, and it's animated to show paper being unrolled. I need to get this animation into Unity, and for that (I think!) it needs to be 'baked' i.e. made so it doesn't rely on the modifier anymore. I tried the apply-as-shape-key, but that messes up the animation
Anyone know why Marmoset is rendering these Polys like this?

normals problem or triangulation problem most likely. make sure that you're exporting from your 3d program with it being triangulated and w/ explicit normals (smoothing groups)

Here is something I made a while ago, thought it was a cool idea ^^

So I'm trying out C4D, as I've been enlisted to do a motion graphic for my schools end of the year bash. Some of the interface is really nice, but I'm still trying to get used to the new navigation shortcuts.

Also, good wallpaper textures are a pain in the butt to find.
