The people complaining are also the people selling other similar products. It's funny, the main guy dropped the prices of his $1200 product to $249 just because i updated some renders on a humble $99 arab city, it's crazy. I think everyone got spooked when sales dropped in the fall, which I think they might have globally for the arab city market, and instead of doing what I did, which was improve the products, they got scared and decided to drop their prices. Through all this I am the one catching flak, they were threatening to pull all my products simply because I was improving my presentation, exactly what they told me to do when I first came to them about how to increase sales.
Funny, my free digger model got taken down for no reason. But the customer support was kind enough to put it up again after they checked it and found no reason for it to be taken down.

Hehe, much appreciated. I'd five star yours too but i'd have to buy them all first. :v:
I've decided to get back into modelling and get myself the new 2012 student version. I'm used to the 09 version so have a few questions.

I used to just add a skylight and enable final gatherer to produce some nice looking shots, which doesnt seem to work anymore. Anyone know how to do a similar thing? (kind of like in whats in the viewport)

I'm going through the tutorials for 3DS Max, what would you guys recommend I make for my first model?
Arg I hate how the perspective works on computer screens. Judging depth is hard to get used to.
So, I'm rather pleased with how today's session, I started making a jab, and it somehow turned out to be a hook..
The lead animator wasn't pleased. So I had to make a real jab instead of a hook.

This was the end result of the Jab:

Something you don't really have to go out of your limits to make. Your first few models should just be about getting to know your way around and feeling comfortable in the program.
I did this about a week ago, and I consider it my first real model (though I've been using max for months on and off). Anything you can make using simple poly modelling techniques.

Anyone know some good tutorials for beginner animation in max?

An oil drum or barrel. Easy to model, unwrap and texture. Good for gettting used to the software.
Ill probably tone down the damage, not sure yet.

Tone it down from the trigger guard backwards (towards the handle). It looks unrealistic when it follows every curve with equal strenght.

Thanks for the idea.
Now i just need to make the lowpoly and texture it, which is always the best part in highpoly modeling.
Too bad you never entered the Container contest. :( Would have loved to see what you'd brew up.

Oh that. Yeah i kinda thought about it, but i was too busy back then. :/

It's ongoing, and the deadline is 6th of april.
You'll manage to cook something up! :D
anyone got a good tutorial on uvw mapping? really should learn how to do it, so I can texture stuff
april 6th is a really long way away. i was surprised it's this long

It's sooner than you think.

I was going to say that's incredible for a first model, before I realised who made it :v:

I think it's done, turned out pretty cool. 1108 tris.

So, does this fall in the criteria?

Marmoset is a real time engine, apart from the fact that i used supersampling. : D
Yes, that would count, although technically you did make it before you joined the contest. I'd probably allow it, unless you feel you can make something better.

Well, then it's okay as SweetSwifter said.
BUT! If you are to enter, you cannot enter with something you've spent less then four days on :P
Seeing how that barrel only took an hour to make........
Now THAT would give us some impressive contribution from you :)

;D Okay, i don't know how much i spent time on that, but it's pretty close to 4 hours. But it's fine if it's not contribution worthy.

Well something that might take someone else 4 days, could probably be done by nVidia in a half hour, so I guess if he actually spent the whole 4 days modelling and texturing something we might end up with another amazing construction vehicle or something.

most probably not.
time to learn how to uvw map
