I recommend you use 500 for the resolution though, depending on the size of your domain and fluids inside it the comp times will change dramatically so around 1.5gb req. memory should be good providing you have a good enough CPU

And the end time was effectively 7 for that render since i quit half way through.
Those settings are pure overkill.
You don't need to go over 200.
Use two subdivisions and 300 res.
And why do you only need 1.5GB for 800res?
You didn't use a cubic (1x1x1) domain.
With a cubic domain you need about 47GB RAM.
The amount of memory you need depends on the dimensions of the cube, not the size.
A 4x4x4 cube will take the same amount of memory as a 1x1x1 cube does but a 4x4x2 cube takes half the memory.
Rendering the laste 40 frames of my simulation.
Takes about 11min per frame, up to 7GB RAM, 160.000.905 polygons.
It's finally done.
Great, though you might want to push the letters in the sign down a bit, they look like they are in fairly good repair as is.
yeah. probably. i have no idea what to do with the letters still tbh, ill figure it out later.

fortunately it makes the barrels fit quite well

The dirt looks good, but it has no sense of direction. If you add some leaking downwards or something, and dirt along the bottom edges, it'd make more sense.
somewhat related, anyone see this? http://www.daz3d.com/i/3d/free-3d-software-overview?
Daz3d stuff free. I've never used it but sounds like it's worth trying. Modeling, animation, scene creation, and character creation programs.
I think Daz is mainly about you buying their pre-made content packs.
Give it a go though, by all means.

A normal map and some specular highlight would look better on that barrel, seems kinda flat as it is now.
Its not done but I like where it's going

I believe the photography thread is that way --->
[sub][sub][sub][sub][sub]before you rate me dumb this is meant to be a compliment[/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub]
The rope looks a bit akward, Other then that. Yeah that's pretty much photo realistic.
I fix the rope. :)
pls show a viewport grab, thats really cool
Gonna do a few more changes, noticed some flaws in the test render like the water, the vegetation and some objects. AND THEN ITS TIME TO RENDER.

And here's a zombie city I'm making.
Yeah and you missed the point. The person asking was stating that he/she was going to start from the beginning, learning proper modelling. Hence the remark.
I completely understood the point, I was just pointing out the tutorial wasn't meant for beginners.
Hayate those look fucking awesome, I actually thought the first one was a photo.
Working on some character expressions for the film. Not all final yet, but I'm really happy with the way it's going. Looks like there's some actual bones and muscles under there, it's very challenging but so satisfying.

hayate i think theres some fundamental perspective issues with the water scene
What u mean?!
looks like the plane of water your objects are on are too high up for the horizon or something? hard to explain, one sec
[editline]7th February 2012[/editline]
[thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17721670/hayate.jpg[/thumb]
see the horizon in the background is too low
also its slightly tilted
Weird, I dont get it. Tilt is intentional btw? :D
Weird, I dont get it. Tilt is intentional btw? :D
He took LSD so forgive him!
He needed to be inspired.
He's right about the perspective thing.... good eye. The vanishing point should always be on the horizon.
How do you fix that stuff any ideas?
try just moving everything down a bit, or move the background up. basically the vanishing point for all your objects in the scene has to be on the horizon line
Try just extending the water out and moving the sky back? To be honest though, I don't think it's a huge problem... the image looks fantastic. Just keep it in mind in the future I guess.
Danke schön mein freund
[editline]7th February 2012[/editline]
I'm going to fix it tonight and hopefully have thr final render today

I think that gravity would pull down the rope unless it's attached in something, unless the rope on the farther plank is very short.
[editline]7th February 2012[/editline]
The picture itself was awesome. I thought that the rope was the only thing you made! :D
Fixed the horzion and the rope :D
He's right about the perspective thing.... good eye. The vanishing point should always be on the horizon.
What if it was meant to stand like this
[t]http://puu.sh/g3hR[/t]
Then the pier vanishing point would be above the horizon... smart ass :P
If it was tilted down the way however... you'd have a point.

My illustration is just like Hayate's image: The horizon is below the vanishing point.
Doesn't that mean I have a point?

Done in Solidworks by the way. I can't model with polys at all :'(
I'm done with it (http://filesmelt.com/dl/lakesidedock_small.jpg). I don't think the perspective rule thing is fixed. I've put the sky on the horizon and all but it didn't do much (I think). Thanks for the crits guys. :D I'll post more updates on my zombie city project as I work on it.
