That said, we're pretty fucked off cause another group (who we're actually really close friends with) got a 5 day extension 'cause they didnt finish due to poor time management. Sent a ranting email to the course leader, it totally undermines our hard work.

Congrats on getting the film finished! If you haven't made one you can't know how much work goes into it. Well done.
It's gotta suck others get more time because they failed and seems like a completely idiotic move by the teacher(s).
It's great your own team has kept together though because that's the most important thing in a team project. Undermining each other just makes the whole thing fail immediately.
Our short film project was a real mess to be honest.
Five people with three quite strong minded stubborn people that work well on their own but not together as we found out the hard way.
We started out with a completely artsy fartsy idea that we struggled with for a while and couldn't even piece together on a storyboard state completely.
Me and a friend wanted to change the idea but the others wanted to waste precious time on trying to get it all to fit.
When we finally all agreed to change the idea we had wasted almost two months on concepts, storyboards and even modelling.
After changing the idea it went fine for a short while but then the two people who had very strongly wanted to keep the first idea practically left the group for work.
They were helping on occasion but it did more harm than good since everything they did clearly lacked motivation which showed.
Our team was a ticking timebomb.
Once one of the guys completely left the group and we only relied on the three "core members" it all started working a lot better.
Us three were a much better team than all five of us together.
We only had a fraction of the time the other teams had since we'd wasted months arguing over all kinds of things.
This smaller team was a lot more efficient however and we got an enormous amount of work done in a relatively short amount of time.
The two other people who were still doing the project with me hadn't used blender at all before the project though so they had to learn during it and I had to do about half of the film alone...that was a bit stressful to put it mildly...
I didn't do any 3d for 3 months after that.
Sorry for the long post I was just pointing out that if there's someone you really work well with it's worth to remember when you're done with your studies.
It's quite hard to find a good team that you work well with.

And a very cheap lens
hmm.. Trying to render 3000000 hairs on a teapot might not have been the smartest thing I've done...
Oh well.. Max is still eating memory, haven't crashed yet.

Of course :P
I wouldn't have it any other way ;)
If the 50,000 passes were for lighting, you need to ask 'is the lighting complex enough to require that many passes'. If this were a brighter scene or an outdoors scene with complex geometry and many light sources (including ambient sky light) then it would be worth it. For a dark, can't-see-much-anyway tunnel scene it's not really necessary.

I agree. I tend to use an emit material and some blur filtering to do quick anamorphic lens flares

Don't suppose you have a 1920 x 1080 render of that scene do you? Would love it as my wallpaper.
Just sorta messing around with stuff, trying to learn rendering.

What are the most expensive models/scenes on TurboSquid that people actually pay for? I'm in need of selling out. I'm thinking of making a city.
Rendering is hard.

Going to move into caustics and do a simple bottle of water.
Also, just want to say thanks to Domino for being awesome and helping me learn it with multiple pictures and quick responses [IMG]http://www.facepunch.com/fp/ratings/heart.png[/IMG]

I remember this from a few threads back, it's so nice to look at

We all know someone that's a little bit... Different.
Also, 300000 strands of hair.

Look familiar? Saw it when I was browsing new and noteworthy ipad apps. It's called Bravo Force: Last Stand.

They apparently built their environment used in the game off one of my arab city sets, stacking the buildings and making some changes to the textures but it is still fun to see.
Feels good when others use your work.
Has anyone tried this out btw?

My friend bought it when it was still in development but it's been released for free now.
Seems quite useful.
The simple things you see at the start can be done in 3Ds Max easy but those more advance objects became impressive.

Huh, looks really cool.
Wow, I think I will try that program someday, looks really impressive.

Still trying to get acquainted with rendering, never really focused on it before.
Spent last night and all today getting this set up last minute for a lighting project I have due tonight.

Blender is free. It's not unusual for professionals to switch back and forth between tools, why can't you? They guys over at Dogfights (3D show on History channel) used Blender alongside Max and Maya.
I'm making a cello.

Cellos are cool.
New to 3D Renders, so I tried making a wallpaper for my friend.

Yay got my walk cycle done

Make it loop a bit longer, 2 second videos about animations are probably the most hated on Youtube.
New WIP

What is that green/redish reflection on the left plate?

The band that goes around with colour on it?
That's camo tape :P
It kinda looks off, I suggest more like a yellow/black stripe kind of texture, this makes it looks like some texturing error.

Alright will do shortly.
