:( anybody else get this problem?
Thanks man! The top hats are actually a little nod to The Prestige, which has similar themes. Not sure if you got that, or just liked the fact they were top hats. Check it out if you've not seen it. Reposting for new page. https://vimeo.com/42559953 Password: clone123 Full HD yadda yadda yadda
The look of the film was amazing. But I think you could have looked more at references for the way the body moves, the timing was great, but the weight of the way he moves looked a bit of, and though the animation was dynamic, it seemed a little robotic sometimes. Of course stuff like this will improve as one keeps on animating. All in all, a good looking short :)
:( anybody else get this problem?
Works fine here. Wow, you did an amazing job! Congratz!

That year gets used up pretty quick haha. Thanks for the honest feedback though, much appreciated. I'm going to start work on my next film when I get back from france next month. I leave on Thursday so I'll be outta here for a while. I'll definitely share the progress with you guys, maybe even collaborate if anybody was interested?

That's worrying, we sent that same link to prospective employers. It must be a vimeo problem :( Sorry guys. We'll have an unpassworded version eventually.
Okay got it to work, seems it doesn't like Chrome for some reason. It worked on Firefox though. Anyway, that was amazing! The only thing that could've been improved was the animation, but it's not not terrible. I loved the disintegration effect.

I'd love to collaborate on something :D
Don't know what problems some have but worked fine for me. It was really pleasant to look at. Nice compositing especially and the models, textures and shading was nice too. Did you use simple diff shaders for most of the stuff btw? We did exactly that for RoadRaisins (our second year film I talked about at some point) and only used reflections on a few things. CA was pretty good too but not it's strongest point imo. Better than ours though. Really nice overall! Congrats! EDIT: I watched with chrome and it works fine so must be something else.

Pretty impressive film though, did note the top hat reference, though the hats were of a bit different design in 'The Prestige'. It seemed to be cut kind of short, I realise that it is a short but even still, seemed like there should have been even a few more seconds near the end there.
Is that a phaser from Star Trek: TOS?
No idea, I just Googled random blueprints. In any case, still some more things to add to it.
You guys mentioned that there was a patch of some sort for the graphical glitches that plauge 3ds max 2012, what was that exactly? This and this keep happening.
Did a quick tinting job since I'm not texturing it, pretty sure it's final, I think it looks pretty good for my 2nd attempt at armor and I'm still new to humanoid shapes and what not. (yes I know the feet are ugly, 1st feet I've done and I had no tutorial :c )
It's very square and boxy looking. The chest for example has almost straight sides, take a look at your own torso, does it have straight angles? [editline]23rd May 2012[/editline]
Sorry to disappoint you, but I never work in teams. I only have bad experiences with it. Maybe in a later stage when I need final models or something? Usually the problem is that I lose interest in a project and other team members get mad at me. Really though, how do I practice modelling? Could someone make a list of increasingly harder things I should try? This is the kind of stuff I need to be able to make for my game: [t]http://i46.tinypic.com/9vf3pc.png[/t] [t]http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a345/ajackss/props.jpg?t=1336409487[/t]
Master poly modeling, unwrapping, high poly baking (if you're going for that art direction) and do a lot of textures. Can't really tell a specific thing to try, maybe a car or something like that. You always learn a lot from the bigger projects you can use on even the small ones.
If you have the legal version, just apply the updates. Don't know for the rest.
I do have the legal version but where exactly do I go to get the updates, It has never told me about any update. Maybe I should try upgrading my service pack.
That looks pretty painful to hold.
According to whoever made that, they're not too bad to hold.
Password is clone123. Enjoy! :D https://vimeo.com/42559953 Also, please watch in full screen and HD!
Really great and funny too. My only issue is the goggles near the start have weird lenses and his eye sockets seem to be crushed in weirdly.
Most of that stuff would actually be pretty simple, modelling wise. A lot of time sure, but it's almost completely basic shapes. The hardest part would be texturing.
Should I model based on the textures available to me or see it as a separate process?
Should I model based on the textures available to me or see it as a separate process?
Separate process. Besides, you can get almost anything off of CG Textures, or some random photographer's free stock. CG Textures is great, that HEV Suit I posted earlier uses stuff from there exculsively.
Anyone know how I can somehow make it so this number will slowly accelerate? I tried using autokeys but they don't blend the number box keys together like they do when actually moving the camera manually.

I spotted some errors here and there. Especially when near the end the character gasped, and one could look through his cheek, right to the ground behind him. But overall, it's a fantastic end product, and you deserve any and all job opportunities you get. :3
Cheers man. You cant see the ground, but you can see where his teeth end, and the lighting was broken on them so there's like a light passing through him and hitting the inside edge of his teeth. We could spend another year just tweaking haha, but we're just glad it's over. To whoever asked about the character animation, yeah it was the first time we'd animated anything in 3D. Animation was definitely our weakest point, but we knew that from the start and done the best we could. Thanks again guys.
Hmm, using Google Streetview as reference and SketchUp as modelling tool seems to work reasonably well for me. At least it doesn't scream programmer art and will do nicely as placeholder for now. [t]http://puu.sh/wj2P[/t]

Havent seen anythin like that ever, really cool plot twist
Story was something we wanted to focus on, so many of the grad films are "technical pieces" but to be honest, I reckon ours looks better too. That said, the story isn't exactly the most original, we took a lot of influence from various films. It was initially an adaption of an old Twilight Zone episode and grew from there. That said, remember what Jean Luc Goddard said, "it's not where you take it from, it's where you take it to" At the end of the day, we're sitting here turning down companies and nobody else has had a single offer, so it done it's job. I look forward to my next project, I learned to much on this one. I'm really glad you enjoyed it man.
