Off to France for the Annecy animation festival! Catch you guys in 3 weeks :D
Have a blast!
First attempt at real edge modeling.
What do you mean by "real edge modeling"?
What do you mean by "real edge modeling"?
As in I modeled it all from extruding an edge and using the cut tool.
But sir A diamond is a rock
Oooooooh, my bad for not defining the rock :P I was thinking about pebbles.
As in I modeled it all from extruding an edge and using the cut tool.
I used to do stuff like that, but I found out that it's waaaay more time consuming then having several pieces. Now subdivide it, and apply a meshsmoothing modifier! :)
I know it's really early to post it but I'm making the PLR19 without the handgrip. Please let me know what you think. I can be reached at iajewif@valevsoffwarez.tk
Ajacks, that's amazing. It's amazing because that's the exact quality one would expect from any number of AAA video games shipped over the past five years. And they hire entire art teams to do their models. You're one man, doing the work of many, with the same or better quality. How do you feel about that?
It's just nice to know that I could handle the workload at just about any studio and most likely get to go into my pick of studios if I ever felt like going into game development.
I'm pretty new to modelling (about over a year now), and I've had lots of texturing and UV mapping problems. I don't have the skill to UV or texture correctly (and nicely), here's an example of my latest work : [img_thumb]http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/8752/rendertex1.png[/img_thumb] So what is a good way to texture meshes? Help would be much appreciated.

Made this during school just testing out some diffrent stuff.

How can I make a light in vray that is 'infinitely far away' like the sun for example, because right now i'm using a sphere light with no decay but since it's so far away the quality of shadows suffers.
How can I make a light in vray that is 'infinitely far away' like the sun for example, because right now i'm using a sphere light with no decay but since it's so far away the quality of shadows suffers.
VRay sun found in the vray section of the lights tab?
Needs more contrast. Do an AO Bake and go from there.
I've baked it with AO now, and now I'm completely lost again. Should I get some textures and start layering those on the texture, or what?
VRay sun found in the vray section of the lights tab?
Does that actually make the light infintely far?
Does that actually make the light infintely far?
Of course, it's an orthographic light source which is pretty much what you asked for.
I can't believe I didn't think of that. Oh well. Anyways does anyone know how to get rid of these weird artifact lines when using displacement in vray?
Any way to enable blurring? It's because the image you're using is probably an 8 bit one, so the height information is 0-255, whereas 16 bit would allow for way more precision.
Goddamnit it is 8 bit, I didn't notice that. Can I convert it to 16 bit and then have it interpolate to make it a bit cleaner? http://lroc.sese.asu.edu/ Does not appear to have a 16 bit image but i'll look again.
I can't believe I didn't think of that. Oh well.
I think you mean "thank you".
I've baked it with AO now, and now I'm completely lost again. The AO helps in showing where the forms are for painting and can enhance the look of the texture a lot. @TonyP No offense but how can't you think of something called sun being similar to a sun?
I know what vray sun is I just hadn't thought of using it for a space scene.
Any directional light is infinitely far as all of the light rays are coming parallel from one direction.
Random alien ship.
Looks like you've copies the mass driver array from Mass Effect.
Looks like you've copies the mass driver array from Mass Effect.
Qualities that this ship has that are similar to the mass relay are accidental. I've had a design like this bouncing Around in my head for a while. long before I ever played mass effect.

Gonna sculpt a moviestar for our caricature sculpt assignment. Here's an initial sketch. [t]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2344342/caricature.jpg[/t] If someone would be able to recognize who it's supposed to be I might even be able to pull this off. Otherwise suggestions to improve it are appreciated. Also sorry for my crappy drawing skills.
Hey, can't you see I'm Walken here?
Yeah you got it. Realized he's pretty difficult to do but I'll give it a go.
