im using some really messy modeling for concepting some drawings for my drawing 2 class

Also, cant seem to get it smooth from Maya, even when I export the normals.
Are those faces ngons?
Are those faces ngons?
Aye. I assume that's the problem, because they're not tris or quads. Still to try converting the models into tris, not sure how it'll handle the ngons.
They are a common sight in the middle east. Often they don't have running water so they fill tanks at the the top of the house and they act like a little mini water tower, providing water pressure for the house below. They do the same thing here in Indiana for the people who live far away from the municipal water supplies.
Also that heats the water up in the sun.
I don't like the ship material but it took too damn long to render for me to re-do it.
Also: I made this on my phone and shitty laptop using a remote desktop viewing program (so I could hardly see my main computer).

I was just about to make a post on how to improve the rendering.
Hey little children come play in my bedroom but watch out for all those sharp edges I want to keep you alive for now.
Happens with all modes, I think it might be a driver issue. The thing is, last time I installed a new driver it first uninstalled my old one but the new one failed to install, leaving me with a computer with no graphics drivers (thanks Nvidia). I am not trying that again, for some reason new drivers won't install (keep getting 'installation failed' messages).
ლ(ಠ益ಠლ)
Have you tried to install the following?
ServicePack 1
hotfix 1
hotfix 2
ServicePack 2
If not you should try it..
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/index?siteID=123112&id=2334435&linkID=9241178#section1
Also, install in that order.
Pretty sure you only have to install SP2, That's what I did and all is fixed.
some more..

Looks really thin in that photo
1911s are pretty thin in reality.
I think not having the grips on yet is making it look too thin.
Ill be curious to see it as is with the grips added.

Thanks man. Wish I had time to make Aragorn fighting some orcs or something similar.
That ring is pretty cool, I was thinking about 3d-printing the lotr ring for fun but it would be some crappy abs-plastic. Shapeways could have it made in metal though, so you could make your own version of the ring.
their metal printing costs a lot though

Blender 2.6 and After Effects CS3
A technical test: creating falling embers/ash in Blender and sound-mixing in AE.
Ember effect created through use of particles, animated textures and compositing nodes.
I'm hoping to use this effect at a later date to composite falling ash and embers into filmed footage.

The texture looks nice, but the ash falls in a very unrealistic way. There should be more sway, and folding of the actual material. Embers often travel upwards as well due to being so hot, or originating from a heat source.
The idea here is that they're falling from a high up nearby fire source - much like they do in HL2 Episode 1 as they fall from the Citadel
Can you elaborate a bit more on the unrealistic falling though?
Well, embers are very light, so any small amount of wind would cause them to move up and down, side to side. Their motion should be a bit more random. Right now, it feels too smooth, especially the close-up one.

Never ever EVER do sound mixing in AE. Use Audition. Or at least Premiere.
Never ever EVER do sound mixing in AE. Use Audition. Or at least Premiere.
I disagree; for small technical demos like this it means I don't have to add another export and render to my workflow
Never ever EVER do sound mixing in AE. Use Audition. Or at least Premiere.
I tried that once, wasn't too bad of a workflow. But coming from a music production background, I agree that one should preferably use a more suited tool for the job, if it's in the budget/timeline.

I strongly disagree;
Mixing in AE works fine, and is much easier then audition if you're not familiar with it.
I guess if he didn't mention that he used AE, you'd never notice the difference.
I mostly do all my mixing in AE.
Pillows need a bit of work.
But they're chamfer foam
their metal printing costs a lot though
Yeah actually everything costs a lot there. 3d-printing at our school in abs-plastic costs about 250€/dm^3 = 0.25€/cm^3. Plus supportive material at approximately the same cost.
Shapeways cheapest material is 1.4$/cm^3 = 1400$/dm^3. That's about 1000€.
Printing in stainless steel is 8000$/dm^3 about 6000€.
Cheap stuff...
AE handles audio really badly imo, you have to hold down CTRL whilst scrubbing just to hear the audio, and even then it's incredibly choppy. Then you have to RAM preview to listen to audio playback.
You can use whatever you want. The audio in AE is only just about passable so you can time stuff to sounds that have already been mixed. I wouldn't do a mix in AE, there's just not the toolset. But whatever works for you I guess.
AE isnt really for audio mixing. Yeah you can do it but for anything more complex than just adding in a couple sound effects or some music or something I really recommend using the right tools for each job even if that means you have to learn another application.

Yupp :3
You'd be a fool if you don't preview what you work on anyway.
