Well, it should be easier to achieve stuff because you actually pay a lot for it. But you CAN achieve the same result in a render with all sort of renders.

Just make sure to include all external data like sounds, images etc. Or pack all the files into the .blend. (File -> External Data -> Pack into .blend file)

Nicely done. I've done a lot of Mudbox stuff, but I'm moving to ZBrush because it seems to have a lot more advanced features. Plus, ZBrush is taught at my new college.
Yes, zbrush is years ahead of mudbox. You just don't need to do a base mesh anymore. With zspheres and dynamesh you can create meshes pretty easily (however, you will still need to retopo the model if you want to animate it, but I think that they are going to release a new plugin very soon to do guided retopo semi automatically). I can't recommend zbrush enough.

You should try actually adding white to gray scratches over, specifically on the edges and raised surfaces.

Hey guys, quick questions. I haven't got much experience with using Alpha channels and was wondering the best way to use them properly for this kind of scenario (The spokes).
