Finally got around to using 3ds Max 2013, I don't have V-ray for it though so unfortunately no more renders but viewport snapshots instead:
it looks cool and all but i guess the shape is just too generic. it screams "cliche sci-fi gun" but oh well.
it looks cool and all but i guess the shape is just too generic. it screams "cliche sci-fi gun" but oh well.
Even if that's the case the amount of details and fiddly bits is amazing :)
it looks cool and all but i guess the shape is just too generic. it screams "cliche sci-fi gun" but oh well.
Also the distance from the butt and the handle is ridiculous.
It's not a rifle.
What is it then?
hahaha, from the front it looks like an advanced futuristic electric razor XD
It's actually a wireless power washer. It combines hydrogen and oxygen from the air into water so you can clean your car anywhere.
It's not a rifle.
oh it makes a lot more sense now.
It's not a rifle.
geez the design is a bit busy. there's no breathing space. it needs some emptier areas and some more detailed areas to draw the eye. right now it's just noise
What is it then?
Don't know exactly, the title was Pulse Cannon from where I got it. No other info. I guess it's some kind of electrical weapon (it says 'beware of electrical discharge') on the side.
geez the design is a bit busy. there's no breathing space. it needs some emptier areas and some more detailed areas to draw the eye. right now it's just noise
i agree, the silhouette itself is p shit.
So cute. It's like PS1 again. You should remove the center loop.
Please, let's not start this in this thread too. Also the center loop may be there so the UV's can be mirrored, reducing the need for a larger texture. Almost all DOTA 2 models use this.
Also the center loop may be there so the UV's can be mirrored.
Oh yeah that's true. Still see places where it could be reduced though.

Also, I'm not mirroring the mesh because of some logos etc. I still got half a 1024x1024 texture left, but that will be used for stock wheels and some different bodykit parts.

You can mirror the UVs and use the saved space to add the logos as flat planes to save polys.
You can mirror the UVs and use the saved space to add the logos as flat planes to save polys.
That's a good idea. It'd be easier to swap out the logos on the fly as well.
You can mirror the UVs and use the saved space to add the logos as flat planes to save polys.
Explain to me in what way that will save me polys... I keep loads of unneeded polys if I want to mirror it because I still keep the center loop, and after that I need to add polys for the logos lol. I'd say it's more like it will add polys and not save me any. Also wouldnt really work for some more 'complex' paintjobs. I guess both ways got their pro's and con's. That, and I'm to far into texturing for me to be bothered ti change it all up again :p

Not sure if this is appropriate to post here, but I really need help. I was working on a model in Blender when the delete edge loop function randomly decided to stop working properly. It no longer closes holes in the UV map like it's supposed to. http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/187/2/9/help_by_theloneredsheep-d56aaab.jpg I have absolutely no idea how to fix it.
I see these in the UV editor, but how do I use them :v:
I see these in the UV editor, but how do I use them :v:
You have to choose a mode of projection first, Planar, Cylindrical, Spherical, etc. which should be the button just above those options i think

Under the delete menu there's a section called dissolve.
Anyone know if there is an easier way to bring images into 3ds max aside from making a plane the exact dimensions and pulling the image onto it?
