What if I want to get into to tool but don't know where to start, what albums do you recommend me?
Go chronologically!
I love the artwork Alex Grey does for them. [img_thumb]http://disfruteconpoco.cl/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/interbeing-alex-grey.jpg[/img_thumb]
I recognise that as the cover of 10000 days, but what's with the colours?
I recognise that as the cover of 10000 days, but what's with the colours?
That´s the original painting by Grey. The album cover is probably just based on that piece.
I used to think Tool was a really crappy band because the 10 minute long songs filled with nonsense, but my god they are amazing. Got their discography the other day, and they're so fucking dynamic.
i like tool artistically but not politically
i like tool artistically but not politically
They're political?
i like tool artistically but not politically
Politically? I haven´t heard of them taking any stance politcally. Other than all that "Think for yourself, question authority" stuff, which is pretty much common sense.
You should upload that somewhere and show us.
http://www.mediafire.com/?uyjdwjnm0ig Sorry for the wait!
How do you mean you arranged them in fibonacci? Do you mean you listened to tracks 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8 and 13, skipping the others?
In that "The Fibonacci in Lateralus" video on YouTube, it shows the numbers 1-13 arranged into the sequence, and out of curiosity I put all the tracks in that order. The sequence is: 6 - Parabol 7 - Parabola 5 - Schism 8 - Ticks & Leeches 4 - Mantra 9 - Lateralus 13 - Faaip de Oiad 1 - The Grudge 12 - Triad 2 - Eon Blue Apocalypse 11 - Reflection 3 - The Patient 10 - Disposition Hope this helps! Don't ask me how to figure out the mathematical sequence, I honestly have no clue. :v:
I only thought the Fibonacci sequence was in the song Lateralus, not the album?

Fibonacci sequence is 1,1,2,3,5,8,13 etc. The song Lateralus is in said sequence because Keenan's vocals start a 1:37, the golden ratio, and some of the lyrics follow the pattern.
(1) Black, (1) then, (2) white are, (3) all I see, (5) in my infancy, (8) red and yellow then came to be, (5) reaching out to me, (3) lets me see. (2) There is, (1) so, (1) much, (2) more and (3) beckons me, (5) to look through to these, (8) infinite possibilities. (13) As below so above and beyond I imagine, (8) drawn outside the lines of reason. (5) Push the envelope. (3) Watch it bend.
Also, the song speaks of spirals, referencing the Fibonacci spirals.
That's fucking cool
I had a feeling I was wrong about that. I don't know what sequence that source was referring to then, it might be somewhat related considering the album sounds much more "flowing" when put into that order. Thanks for correcting me about that.

Although I don't believe they(Tool) did that on purpose, some are just overanalyzing a lot.
Listen and watch some of the videos and songs these guys have out and tell me they weren't on some serious shit when they made them.
Maynard and Danny Carey are the major composers and they've never been high once to gain creative merit. None of there songs have ever been influenced by drugs in any way. I don't think Maynard or Danny even do drugs at all.
Holy shit I love tool. I just recently got Vicarious totally down on guitar and I've been playing it for weeks. I'd give you guys a recording but I have no way to record it :saddowns:
Awesome! I played Vicarious for my solo guitar exam last year in college :respek:

H.
Try singing at the same time :P
I have, it's fucking hard
Oh god, 4° is about buttsecks. I love how their songs have double meanings, especially when they seem so deep but can be interpreted as something vulgar.
