The E36 328i needs about 10l/100km, not really much for a 2.8 ~200hp car. I put that engine in my E30 and it needs ~8l if I drive normally, cause of the low weight of the car.
23mpg is kinda meh, especially when you consider that the number will drop significantly when doing city/performance driving (as it does with all larger engines). It's not that good when you consider the fact that a late-90s Integra can do 22-29 mpg, 0-60 in less than 8 seconds, and excellent handling.

If you just cruise in the countryside at ~100km/h it won't need more than 8l and if you push it, it will get up to ~13-14. It also does 0-100km/h in 7 seconds and it's RWD, thought that's what he was looking for.
KA24 and reliable in the same sentence Must be new here [editline]31st July 2011[/editline] >16MPG How can you afford to drive that My 30MPG rated CRX Si does alright but my Civic was getting about ~26MPG because the basemap was for a different fuel setup, and that kind of mileage was just brutal. [editline]31st July 2011[/editline] My friend Jap's Civic is getting around that and it's killing him, and he makes about a grand a month and drives back and forth to school a lot.
As long as you aren't trying to race people every time you stop at a red light (like i do) Less than 20 isn't bad at all. I never have any financial problems when it comes to gas and i don't really have much of an income at ALL. The 6 i was getting in my K10 cost me $30 a week and yeah, it was tough, but it didn't make me lose my house because it was so ungodly expensive. I just think you guys are exaggerating, I don't understand why you guys are complaining about upwards of 25 MPG, I'd LOVE to have that...

OP get a subaru wrx
22B
22B
yea get a 22b they are very easy to find
get a mustang
I always was more strict as far as MPG ratings go, gas drains your money nearly as well as a girlfriend will. If you're willing to get around 22mpg, I suppose your best bet is to go for one of the kraut cars or even some American sportscars.
kraut cars
What is this the 40's? Who the fuck still talks like that!? Any way I'd direct you to the Top Gear car selector but it's useless for the states and doesn't take used cars into account. Also if you're looking for a used car it may be more of a what's available in your area than what is your ideal car.
What is this the 40's? Who the fuck still talks like that!?
people who dont give a fuck my grandad calls toyotas "them jap cars"
people who dont give a fuck my grandad calls toyotas "them jap cars"
Right but your grandfather was around in the 40's, we shouldn't still be talking like that. Anyway back to cars. . .
What is this the 40's? Who the fuck still talks like that!?
Reminds me when me and my cousin were younger (11yr), playing Medal of Honor: Frontline. This one time we were playing his mom asked what we were doing. Without hesitation we respond: "Killin Krauts" Her: "Oh that's nice."

I'm not joking, it really is. Good little car, hard to find one in good shape for under a few grand right now. The Del Sol VTEC is the best one to grab, it was the first Civic platform that had a B-series from the factory, something like 160hp and 110ft-lbs of torque. Pretty good little car, you can actually expect up to ~38-40MPG in a base model, 5 speed non-vtec version, the same as the Civic. Pic you posted is a 96-97, the 92-95 have a different nose, couple extra lights in there. There's a better chance to get a Del Sol VTEC in the 96-97 range than the 92-95, since only the post-facelift (94 and 95) had that trim level. Hmm... Not much else to say. Worth the price right now? I guess. But don't expect to be able to find a cheap one that han't been butchered by teenagers. Aaaaaannnnnd that's my $0.02.

Black 94 with reasonably low miles and a turbo and no smell of rice whatsoever. Only a few grand so I'll be looking into it sometime. I do like the car.
What engine? If it's a turbo'd D15B7 don't expect much, also don't drive the piss out of it unless you want to replace it with a D16 later because it won't last long. D15 rods are toothpicks and no one makes aftermarket ones for the D15 (that anyone can afford, anyways). If it's a D16Z6 you should be alright, any D16 is better than the D15B7. The only good D15 for boost is the D15Z1, biggest rods of any D series. If it's B series, just keep an eye on it. That's a whole new platform, and although similar to D series it has its quirks. But expect one hell of a ride out of a turbo'd B16, B18 or B20. Regardless, always find out what is in the turbo setup, and if they are using head studs and a block guard or if the block is sleeved (Doubt that, but ask. Sleeved motors are generally worth more than the entire car is valued at, so don't ever expect a sleeved motor in a car on CL). If someone is running a turbo D without head studs, shame on them. Avoid it.

Now that I've completely derailed the thread....
I think you will be able to deal without RWD. In day to day driving, the difference is negligible. Consider a Celica GT-S? It's very neutral and weighs just around 2500lbs - very light! The engine makes 100hp/L (180hp at 1.8 liters) so it's quite potent too. Fuel economy is quite good, you can hit 30 mpg on the highway. Although, the engine's valve timings are very aggressive - it's at its best between 6000rpm to the redline, 8000rpm or so, so it is extremely peaky. You basically have to rev the nuts off it if you want to go anywhere fast.

If I were you, I'd invest in a cheapy ebay cast iron manifold and throw that ramhorn in the garbage, you'll make less power but you won't break it after a couple months of driving either. He's doing it right otherwise, if someone changed that manifold and just kept the maintenance up on it, it'd be a reliable turbo'd DD for someone. I've heard bad reviews on the underdrive pulleys, saying it unbalances the engine, but the D series is internally balanced and most people saying that were just looking for something to blame their engine problems on. Looks good though, setup looks like it could go far, although I wish they would have kept it 75mm instead of boring it. It won't make much of a difference, though, but I'd reccomend a block guard eventually. Setup looks to be good for... Well, if the block could handle it, over 300hp. But I think by then you would crack a sleeve, especially without a blockguard and the .5 overbore. Not great mileage, but for what it is you shouldn't expect it to be a gas sipper. Very zippy rides, even the older Celica GT-S variants are zippy and they're getting cheap.
