I'll come out and say this, I never understood feminism as a concept in the modern, western world. Like, you can't just say, "I'm a feminist." It's like saying "I don't support child abuse." It's a societal norm, or should be at this point. Feminism as a movement has reached its goals, and has been reduced to bickering about wage gaps and work force, and on the other spectrum, to this.
If anything, this will lead to regression, nothing else. There's already so much vocal dumb women hate because of idiots like these
I don't think its a good idea to assume feminism or anything socially progressive idea has reached it's "usefulness" or "end". There will always be people who think the past and tradition had some good ideas, and as a result, will try to cape for and eventully enforce that shit by law. Look at Trump and whatever comes out of his mouth. The dude basically wants to start Operation Wetback: Electric Boogaloo and put Muslims under the same treatment that Japanese Americans underwent during WW2. The past is a visual tunnel into the future.
History moves in chaotic cycles with themes like culture wars and left vs right poltics being present almost every cycle. Assuming "progress" will continue to flourish with no reinforcement is a fool's dream. Never assume you've done too much with your activism because the people who've opposed you will take up your slack and get the upperhand with.

The level of partisanship we're at, where anything less than total agreement is seen as an abject attack on somebodies existential existence, is not conducive to constructive discourse or any kind of social progress.
Sad fact of the matter is those sorts of people exist, and they most definitely have garnered influence.
It really sucks that, as a democratic socialist, everyone just assumes that you support people like Socialist Alternative (who are this on campus group that believe Marxism and the soviet union were good ideas and are just as batshit as the campus stuff happening in the US)
so ive kinda just begun to switch my position a lot, im getting sick and tired of people like this who have no rational thought. Arguing with them is useless, they kinda hide behind shit like "R U KIDDIN ME!!??" when really i just want them to explain their position and demonstrate evidence
also this whole "It's 2016" bullshit is getting on my nerves as well, surprise surprise people have different opinions than yours in current year, oh no
What the hell was she saying when she went into turbo mode?
"Keep your hate speech out of this campus" And she very nearly passed out from it

And it'll be another video for the left or whoever to ignore when they try to push the narrative that these kinds of people exist only on tumblr and have no tangible real world presence or impact. :pudge:
Which is also a concern, because the ideologies they present have done some serious damage to left-wing discussion in general as well. I honestly feel a little bad for these people because when things really get in the shit eventually they'll be totally unprepared to handle it.
Great, another useful idiot for the alt-right to parade around so they can close their ears when presented with any amount of opposing ideas (even if they bear little to no relation to identity politics)
Don't act like there aren't people on the left who do the exact same thing.
I never said that though, I said that people use these videos to create a strawman. There are KKK members who support Donald Trump, but not every Trump supporter is a racist, for example.
but not every Trump supporter is a racist, for example.
There's a lot of people who refuse to accept that statement on the left, and she's not exactly a strawman when she exists, and that's not how straw-manning works anyways.
I have not said that these people don't exist, in fact I have even said that they are a serious problem within the left. On the subject of straw-manning:
A straw man is a common form of argument and is an informal fallacy based on giving the impression of refuting an opponent's argument, while actually refuting an argument that was not advanced by that opponent.[1]
The so-called typical "attacking a straw man" argument creates the illusion of having completely refuted or defeated an opponent's proposition by covertly replacing it with a different proposition (i.e. "stand up a straw man") and then to refute or defeat that false argument ("knock down a straw man") instead of the original proposition.[2][3]
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man
Not all trump supporters espouse racist views, yet people like David Duke have supported him. David Duke isn't a fictional character, yet very often people call trump supporters racist, an argument that was not advanced by that supporter. David Duke may exist, but it does not mean that his views are not used to create a straw-man out of all of the other supporters.
To make an example in relation to the video, I could say that since Stephen Hawking had criticized the distribution of wealth in capitalism, that puts him in the same camp as Trigglypuff. This is a strawman because nowhere in his statement did he claim that his opponents are espousing hate-speech, nor is he shouting down anyone who is arguing with him.
The whole point of my original post was that I felt frustrated because people who oppose the views of some particular ideologies on get unfairly grouped with people like Trigglypuff. Nowhere have I said that these people don't exist, or that people don't refuse to acknowledge that Trump isn't racist.
I really hope this girl becoming a meme has made her think twice about acting like a disrespectful animal.

I don't necessarily disagree with what you are saying here. I'm just going throw my views out on this. This post isn't a direct reply to yours.
From my perspective the lumping stems from a violent reaction towards the refusal of the left to separate themselves from people like Trigglypuf. There's lots of examples of people claiming that these turbo SJW nutjobs are fictional characters and belittling people for being racist/xenophobic conspiracy theorists. Here you have hard, irrefutable, video proof of a turbo SJW existing, and the number of such trivially verifiable cases is growing very fast.
It's the 'for or against us' mentality, except from the opposite side, plus a touch of smug "I told you so." The left bent over backwards to protect the turbo SJWs, and in doing so, cast themselves as being sympathetic, or outright supportive of the turbo SJW behavior. No matter how you splice it, a huge number of leftists have actively tried to dismiss these claims, particularly in politics, and especially in academia. The more moderate among the left have staunchly plugged their ears done nothing to call them out on it. The right seems to be far more assertive when it comes to internally fragmenting into distinct groups, cutting the seriously crazies out and trying not to be associated with them. It's not really strawmanning to make the argument that the left plugs its ears and refuses to engage in this type of introspection.
Is it any wonder that people are fed up enough to just say fuck it, you're all a bunch of liberal cunts? I mean, this is exactly how the BNP came into being, and the instant the left slipped up and the BNP got out into the open they disintegrated overnight because rational people realized the BNP were truly horrible people. Open civil discussion is healthy, and it is not happening. This is a problem with the left, created by the left. The harder they push, and the more extreme their views, the more violent the backlash will be. It's finally starting to come to a head, and I fully expect multiple decades of regression on legitimate rights initiatives and movements before all is said and done.
In my case, unfortunately, I'm well past the fuck it point. I don't care anymore. When all you've experienced is pain, you eventually learn to stop putting your hand on the stove. It's truly sad that good, honest people will suffer because of the insanity of their peers. I simply can't justify my involvement anymore. I'm neither a masochist, nor am I altruistic enough to behave like one.
Did anyone watch the full speech? The speaker Milo is a huge cunt and Trump supporter.

Okay, and?
That's Milo in a nutshell.
Did anyone watch the full speech? The speaker Milo is a huge cunt and Trump supporter.
I did. I watched the whole event.
I think Milo and Crowder were right to call her out. Milo said if they keep acting disgraceful, they will hurt people. I think he is right.
It's the 'for or against us' mentality, except from the opposite side
That is the root of the problem isn't? Christian vs non christian. Liberal vs conservative. Black vs white. Nazi vs Jew. Notice a pattern? Tribalism is racism.
Did anyone watch the full speech? The speaker Milo is a huge cunt and Trump supporter.
Just because he is a trump supporter doesn't mean he isn't right about what he says
The speaker Milo is a huge cunt and Trump supporter.
I think that's a tautology.

i have gotten to the point where i don't give a fuck about left or right, i just have my own opinions that i've thought through. i am very leftist on some issues and pretty damn right on others, but no matter what i do my best to back up what i say and i always try to recognize that people will differ in my opinion and that is okay.

The basis of my thought as I explained is tribalism is the root cause. Confront that and you deal with many issues.
Both sides are guilty of this. Thus both sides need to be shut down for their tribalistic (aka bigotic) tendencies.

As always the sad fact of the matter is that these sorts of people do exist to a certain degree. Not to the degree these comics go to of course.
Why, just ask neogaf:
