Isn't the "Angry Molesting Tree" from the Evil Dead? ALSO, REALLY AWESOME CAMEO: in [sp]the shot where it pulls out to show ALL the cubes with all the monsters in them, look a couple to the right of the two heroes- there's a Boomer from Left 4 Dead![/sp]
Yea I noticed that, too. What I'm still trying to figure out is [sp]how exactly did all these creatures of our nightmares come to exist?[/sp]
Yea I noticed that, too. What I'm still trying to figure out is [sp]how exactly did all these creatures of our nightmares come to exist?[/sp]
[sp]Probably when they made a deal with the gods they made come to life[/sp]
[sp]WHY IS THERE A BUTTON THAT DOES THAT[/sp]
I dismembered that guy with a trowl. What have you been up to?
So, I loved this movie... I got the joke, loved the homages to other films, and laughed like hell when [sp]the director outlined the cliche order of deaths in horror films.[/sp] But my mom hated it. She thought the whole thing should have been [sp] more based on mythology. Like, they're dealing with gods, so why weren't the monsters all mythological. She pointed out specifically the scorpion mech.[/sp] I disagreed with her....
Just remind your mom that [sp]the whole point of this movie is a meta commentary on horror films. That's why it's all a ritual(ie the whore dies first, etc). The 'Gods' are not literal gods but the audience watching these movies. The ending is saying it's time to dump all the worn out rituals(same plots over and over) and try something new.[/sp] So it really has absolutely no connection to mythology. I'm not saying a movie about mythological gods wouldn't be cool, but that's not this movie.
Oh god this movie was awesome, the first thing I wanted to do when I got home was find a picture of the whiteboard. The TVTropes page for this movie is going to be biblical. Also, anyone else notice [sp]The gore was kind of toned down and PG13ish for the first act, bumped up a bit for the second act, and turned up to fucking 11 for the final act?[/sp]
Wouldnt it be kinda cool if the Blu-ray had different monsters attacking them? Like what if the girl never read the book or something.
Wouldnt it be kinda cool if the Blu-ray had different monsters attacking them? Like what if the girl never read the book or something.
It'd be awesome if the blu ray was a choose your own adventure where you could make them pick different items and something would change in the ending to reflect that choice. Or maybe the [sp]lab guys would comment on your choice like one guy saying "No, you don't want that guy, he sucks" while the other guy is yelling "Choose the merman, choose the merman!"[/sp]
-snip-
Just saw the film. Really enjoyed it. I only really had two complaints, explained below: [sp]The scene in the cellar where the egghead gets hit in the back/shoulder with the bear-trap. Two things: where exactly does the bear trap go (did I miss them pulling it out or something?), and why does he instantly just get up and pep up and run off like nothing happened (I mean, he had a god-damn BEAR TRAP IN HIS SHOULDER!)[/sp] [sp]The scene right after where the girl gets mauled by the werewolf. Was I the only one to be turned off by how chill and nonchalant she and Marty were talking, while she had these giant fucking teeth marks right underneath her neck? She acted as though nothing happened at all, either.[/sp] Actually, now that I think about it, those two complaints are fairly universal. I can't really think of anyone really reacting to any sort of [sp]pain[/sp]. Even when Jules got [sp]her hand stabbed[/sp], it seemed like her recoiling was more of the shock of it coming out nowhere, as opposed to the [sp]searing pain of having a fucking knife go through your hand[/sp]. Oh, and the film credits have an actress for the [sp]sugar-plum fairy, who I was personally hoping would be the one to kill them [and I was really disappointed when no even voted for her!][/sp]. Anyone have a screen-capture of her? All in all, a great film. Was hilarious throughout, in spite of the morbidness of the subject. I am glad to see some refreshing ideas, and I wish Hollywood would take the hint. Even without the [sp]meta-commentary on horror films[/sp] as cecilbdemodded explains, the film was actually refreshing and fairly original, even if it is just because it is a unique mash-up of genres and ideas. I wish more films would take a risk like that. Also, does anyone know what [sp]the film in the cellar[/sp] would have brought up? My friend and I figured out what pretty much everything else would have brought up, except that.
About your first issues [sp]I just figured they were pumped with adrenaline and shock, so the pain wasn't paralyzing. The stoner had a knife in his back right? He was doing alright later. Maybe part of what the lab guys did was to drug them enough so they could complete the ritual. After all, they couldn't just kill them straight out, the director at the end said that. The victims had specific parts to play.[/sp] About that item [sp]on Something Awful it's said that it summoned the unicorn since the film was Legend, I didn't catch that so I don't know if it's true.[/sp]
Well, I know they were [sp]pumping the kids full of chemicals. I mean, it's mentioned explicitly in at least five separate instances - the dye that Jules uses has something that slowly enters her brain to make her dumb, Marty's reefer was making him immune to all the chemicals, the Operators pumped in pheromones to make Jules and the dude horny, they use another chemical to change the athlete guy's mind about staying together vs splitting up, and the Operators at first order Thorazine to be pumped into Marty's room when he finds the camera.[/sp] My only issue with that theory is that, in all these instances, it is explicitly stated that [sp]the Operators are using these chemicals, whereas there is not even a hint that they used adrenaline on top of everything else.[/sp] And I don't think any [sp]natural quantities of adrenaline, or any amount of shock, would allow you to complete disregard a FUCKING BEAR TRAP biting into your shoulder/back, and then you get PULLED UP AT LEAST 2 FEET OFF THE GROUND WITH IT. Maybe for a few minutes IMMEDIATELY afterwards, but you'd definitely feel that outside of the five-minute range. Not to mention he didn't seem to bleed AT ALL from the wounds. For that matter, the girl never actually bleeds from the wounds the mauling gave her. The blood she's covered in is from the initial attack, but you never see any blood actively ooze from those wounds.[/sp] So all in all, I don't really buy that explanation. I think it's more poor directing than anything else. In regards to the theory behind the item, that's possible. [sp]I also found it fucking hilarious when the unicorn impaled the guy, because there was stereotypical fairy-tale fantasy music playing as it happened.[/sp]
[sp]I love the unicorn part[/sp]
[sp]the whole point of this movie is a meta commentary on horror films. That's why it's all a ritual(ie the whore dies first, etc). The 'Gods' are not literal gods but the audience watching these movies. The ending is saying it's time to dump all the worn out rituals(same plots over and over) and try something new.[/sp]
Yeah, I love how the movie talks about how horror films [sp] have had to "evolve" to keep the "gods" entertained (The one guy in the company said "Remember when you could just throw a girl in a volcano?".) He also mentioned "keeping the customer happy." [/sp] Like Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (though that's a purely comedic approach) this movie takes all the common cliches of horror films and puts them together very well.
[sp]I had Deja'vu with the Unicorn part because it happened in a recent episode of Supernatural.[/sp] [editline]18th April 2012[/editline]
I really want to see a pic of this
as do I. [editline]18th April 2012[/editline] google'd [sp]L4D and Cabin in the Woods I found this[/sp] http://www.theestablishingshot.com/2012/04/establishing-shot-we-chat-cabin-in.html [sp]Andrew Jones: When they are in the underground cavern, I’m pretty sure there was a reference to Left 4 Dead? Drew Goddard: Where did you see that? I didn’t even see that, but yes! It’s in there somewhere. Because we didn't have any money on this movie and yet we knew what we wanted to do and luckily Left 4 Dead, we were going to do a tie-in with Left 4 Dead 2 that was going to be Cabin in The Woods: Left 4 Dead and you could actually play the game, so that was all planned, and then the bankruptcy happened. But as a result we got to have some of their assets and they were nice enough to let us put some of their stuff in the deep background. We didn't want to be that obvious but I’m impressed you caught that because that is definitely not something that is easy to spot - Boomer. [/sp]
[sp] Wow did no-one notice the cameo from the boomer from Left 4 Dead?[/sp] Edit: Guess the above post saw it. [sp] For reference, when the appearance of the monsters in the cages are shown, the boomer can be seen on the right side staring at the screen[/sp] [editline]18th April 2012[/editline]
I couldn't help but feel that redneck zombies were one of the more boring choices of beast in the selection, but at least the later portion of the film made up for that. I especially loved seeing the [sp]merman[/sp]. [editline]16th April 2012[/editline]
What is "Kevin" supposed to be?
What is "Kevin" supposed to be?
If you don't recognize ^ he's a ninja cannibal from Sin City. Not really ninja, but he fucking moves like one so close enough.
witch sexy witch

[sp]Would have been an incredibly awesome cameo to have him during the finale.[/sp]
This movie was really, really good. If you haven't seen it and plan to, I suggest not ever watching the trailer.
(non spolier review from me) alright i just got done watching it and i gotta say way better then scream franchise combined. The cabin in the woods i think in my opinion did alot better on the what if of the horror styles and diffrent mini genres that were also in here . and i know i sound like a broken record here but it also leaves alot of theroys out there for the other horror movies out there in the open . now if anyone here who is reading the comments and maybe the spoilers just stop yourself cause you will be ruining a very interesting experience for yourself . as i put it as a spill rating BETTER THEN S*X !
What is "Kevin" supposed to be?
I figured it was a sort of Jason knock-off, but the Sin City reference makes sense as well
What is "Kevin" supposed to be?
Apparently, Kevin is none of the things listed in this thread.
Among the various possible monsters on the control room white board, one of them is just listed as "Kevin." Although Kevin is never seen, in the tie-in book The Cabin in the Woods: The Official Visual Companion co-writer Drew Goddard said that Kevin was meant to be "a sweet-looking guy who seemed like he might work at Best Buy--until he dismembers people."
Source: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1259521/trivia For those of you who are interested in seeing the Boomer (I missed it too,) I downloaded the movie and took some screenshots. Obviously, don't click unless you've already seen the movie or you'll get spoiled. those are some really shitty screenshots i tell ya
Saw it today, fantastic film I loved the [sp]scene with the elevators opening after the "purge" button was hit, such an "oh fuck" moment.[/sp]
[sp]I wonder what they would have had to do to summon the boomer[/sp] Also, clarifying that Kevin theory: [sp]"Among the various possible monsters on the control room white board, one of them is just listed as "Kevin." Although Kevin is never seen, in the tie-in book The Cabin in the Woods: The Official Visual Companion co-writer Drew Goddard said that Kevin was meant to be "a sweet-looking guy who seemed like he might work at Best Buy--until he dismembers people." This is from the IMDb trivia page. [/sp] I'd still go with the Sin City reference, considering their explanation and the character are basically the same thing.
In the advertisements they keep saying "You think you know the story" but I have no clue what they're talking about. Am I missing a famous story or are is it just random promoting? I'd appreciate an elaboration.
Because at first glance it seems like the most overdone plot in horror movie history. College students go spent the night in a creepy cabin in the woods and get attacked by monsters they accidentally summon. But the twist is the whole [sp]sacrificing college students with cliche monsters to keep ancient gods at bay[/sp]
In the advertisements they keep saying "You think you know the story" but I have no clue what they're talking about. Am I missing a famous story or are is it just random promoting? I'd appreciate an elaboration.
It's because the "bunch of pot-smoking college kids going to vacation in a cabin far removed from society, when they get terrorized by some malevolent force" is considered one of the most cliche and generic plot-themes in horror film history. Though I'm not sure which film does a better parody of it - this film, or Dale and Tucker Vs Evil, which, by the way, is a great film - it stars Wash from Firefly and Sock from Reaper (some of you may know him as the guy who took care of the chimps in the lab in The Rise of the Planet of the Apes, but I recognized him from Reaper.)
