Cabin In The Woods - A new spin on the classic horror formula

He was also the 'pirate' in Dodgeball
He also played pedophile in CSI, he was very creepy I might add, he actually scared me.
This movie is a very original take on the cliches of the horror genre and also has the benefit of being a really fun movie to watch.
It's because the "bunch of pot-smoking college kids going to vacation in a cabin far removed from society, when they get terrorized by some malevolent force" is considered one of the most cliche and generic plot-themes in horror film history.
Though I'm not sure which film does a better parody of it - this film, or Dale and Tucker Vs Evil, which, by the way, is a great film - it stars Wash from Firefly and Sock from Reaper (some of you may know him as the guy who took care of the chimps in the lab in The Rise of the Planet of the Apes, but I recognized him from Reaper.)
Tucker and Dale was good but this is much better.
Saw this last week. Awesome film.
I loved everything about it. I could tell it would be great just from the sequence up until the title card.
I enjoyed this film a lot. I loved the idea of it and how it all came together. And the final scenes underground were brilliant.
[sp]I also found it fucking hilarious when the unicorn impaled the guy, because there was stereotypical fairy-tale fantasy music playing as it happened.[/sp]
[sp]I was thinking Peggle the entire scene[/sp]
[sp]The only thing better than the moment when all the elevators lit up was when it happened AGAIN[/sp]
I want to see this. Is it really any good? I want to see it because Joss Whedon wrote it, which is probably similar to why some of you have seen it. But to be honest, from the trailers I've seen it looks like a cliche summer horror film. I think Joss would be able to pull it off beautifully, but the trailer of course can't confirm or deny that.
Another question, how scary is it actually? I can handle intense scenes, violence and all that. But as for jump scares, how often do those occur?

Is there a list of all the references and easter eggs in the film? I'm by no means a hardcore horror fan, but I'd still like to know what they added in for fun. I've heard of at least 1 Left 4 Dead reference, are there any others?

It's great. Definitely worth a watch. If you enjoy Joss Whedon's works you'll be glad to know a few of the usual cast is acting in it.

It's may seem that way at first but it's not.

It's not that scary, and there's no jump scares that I recall.

Hmm looking at imdb I don't recognize any of the actors, not by name anyways.
Most likely something of his I haven't seen(yet).
I noticed a few people from Dollhouse, Angel, and Buffy.

I thought something different was going to happen.
[sp]Impalement by horse dick.[/sp]
Just saw it, I really enjoyed it. I can't remember the last time a horror film of this style had interesting characters.
Personally, I didn't find the characters themselves to be interesting. They didn't seem to have much more dimension than was necessary for them to convey the plot.
What exactly the people were doing [sp]in the facility[/sp], though... THAT was intriguing right up to the big reveal.
you know something hit me about that kevin on the white board and what the trivia said about him being a nice guy who works at best buy . im wondering if kevin is some type of form of refrence to this man

I don't know how I feel about the [sp]ancient gods needing a sacrifice ending. I was half expecting the movie to end with them revealing the director/administrator(whoever was in charge). There would be one of those giant swivel chairs, and in the end it'd turn around to reveal either Joss himself or Nathan Fillion doing an evil laugh right before it cut to the credits.[/sp]
[sp]Did anyone imagine the balding guy as Dr. Bright?[/sp]

[sp]joss and drew, the writers of the film, are represented by the two employees. sigourney weaver was the "director" (like the director of the film, and the company).[/sp]

I know that, I was just saying what I thought might happen.

I liked the ending, I just wasn't expecting it completely.

yep i figure the threoy was dumb .
Loved this film. I pissed myself with laughter when the opening title appeared. It was just so random and unexpected. I expected this film to be predictable, boy was i wrong.
I just came back from this, and I'd have to say I enjoyed it. The first half was kinda eee and uninteresting, whereas the second half was a lot better and interesting but I still didn't feel like it went past "ok".
A thing I really liked about it though, was the several clever match cuts.
