If you don't have a decent computer or for whatever reason, it's $5 on Xbox Live.
Am I the only one that enjoyed the game's combat? I mean, when you play it on the highest difficulty (I activated dev menu to open the higher difficulties from day zero) with no HUD the game is pretty engaging.
This game has some sweet mechanics, and legit puts me on the edge due to it's horror themes and not because BOO DA SLENDER MAN SCARD U!!!!! And the usage of light as health + a weapon is genius
I have a weakness for good flashlights, especially ones that give you a lot of freedom with what direction they face instead of em just lighting up directly in front of you, it's why I also love the wii version of tomb raider anniversary, Alan Wake is no exception to this. It also helps that the game is pretty good, even if the combat can be a bit lackluster and annoying.
MY FLAMING EYE OF MORDOR
Everyone should play this game. Back in 2010 I didn't find it scary at all really but for some reason the dark ones just get my adrenaline rushing now. I guess that's the point but dangit I get too spooked sometimes when you're being overwhelmed.
My friend bought me it yesterday :3
Everyone needs to buy this bundle, you're going to get a load of great extras. Some include, complete collection of the Night Springs episodes, the Harry Garret Show with Sam Lake and Alan Wake and a bunch of prerelease artwork and demo vides going back to 2005
Bought it even though i don't really like the games.
Sam Lake is doing an AMA on reddit right now.
also: notice the absolute shitload of exclusive, really interesting Alan Wake stuff in your download pages. There's even sheet music for the game's OST.
wait does that include the Poets of the Fall/Old Gods music?
if so, oh my god ive been searching so long
never understood what was so great about this game
i hated the combat, got incredibly stale to me after a while, for being a 'horror' game i surely never was scared at one point ever
story was fine i guess, never did beat the game though because the combat was such an obstacle/pain in the ass
wait you dont have to fight
awesome the fighting is boring as shit good to know
Wait what how? They always just run right up to me and I don't feel like infinite dodging.

Yeah. I'm listening to Children of the Elder God right now.
I got bored of this game pretty quickly. Does it ever advance from fighting loggers in a misty forest?

No. :(
Well there's possessed objects but you just point your light at them until the health is gone.
They should have at least implemented possessed bears.
the only scary things in this game are the freaky, half animated porcelain doll faces all the characters have
Lots of nice bonus content.

Not sure how the "The Movie" thing works.

I get really annoyed when people call Alan Wake horror. it's a thriller, THRILLER.
It's on the fucking box

Just got this game and it's surprisingly fun. The combat is kind of dumb though.

The combat is pretty good, but it becomes really easy and repetitive after a while. The combat isn't really why the game is amazing, though, so that's alright.
American Nightmare improved the combat significantly, but lost some of the weird charm of the first one. Still fantastic, of course.

i'm sure you don't understand it at all considering you even got the genre wrong.
Been meaning to play this for a while, I guess now is as good a time as any.
Jesus christ this game is fustrating as fuck when it comes to fighting dudes. Lets just put you against like 300 floating objects on a bridge that take a single bar of health out of you when they hit you. They also have a shitton of health.
Hope you saved up those flares or flashbangs.
Oh you managed to survive that? I'll just give you like two heavy axe dudes in close quarters. Have fun!

There's no citation, it's not true.

You're supposed to be exploring areas for hidden supplies. It's a survival thriller, you don't just go in guns blazing blasting dudes left and right, it takes a bit of on the spot planning on how to best use a flare to break down the darkness of multiple enemies. Everything you have should be managed carefully, the only thing you don't really have to worry too much about is ammo.
It sounds like a lot of people are playing the game wrong. Some have even gotten the genre totally wrong.

youd better get on IGNs case then because they gave it best horror game
and honestly youd have to be pretty dumb to not think its a survival horror, seeing as how 99% of the gameplay takes place in dark forest-y areas and with all the scares it tries to throw at you

Fuck IGN. Remedy made it clear that it was a thriller. When people would ask them "horror?" they'd say "No, no, no, it is a psychological thriller"
It's not dumb knowing what the game is. It's pretty obvious it isn't meant to be a horror too with all the comedic/over the top bits in the game. Treat it like it's a spooky thriller TV show.

Your first problem: IGN
Your second problem: It's still not survival horror. Amnesia is survival horror.
Alan Wake is fairly low on the horror elements. Yeah it's dark and there's some good ambiance and the story is moody but it's not horror. It's definitely got the survival part, but it's "psychological action thriller" for a reason.
You're still blasting dudes down with shotguns and rampaging with cars, running over people. It's more about the story and piecing things together than it is "omg im so spooked he jumped out at me!!!"
Damn, $1 short it and won't let me pay with Amazon.
