this thread is painful to read
Close it before you hurt yourself.
I'm masochistic
Taking anything that stands in your way, out any way possible.
What exactly do you mean by "feminized"?
Today's society kind of sucks.
I'm a buff white dude, I should have all the power and money.
The metrosexual, Portland, Oregon, male spread a NASTY virus throughout the country. Damn it all to hell...it spread faster than the speed of light...by the time we realized how many people were wearing black framed ray bans with no lenses....it was already too late. :suicide:
A man doesn't give a shit about honor, dignity, confidence.
He just has these things and doesn't think about them, that's all.
The man. Still waiting for my white straight dude money and pleasures though. Anyone knows where to get them? Who am I to show my Honor (big long one), Dignity (left one) and confidence (smaller right one, I hate it) for inspection?
I think people should do what makes them happy as long as it doesn't hurt others it is fine. People should be their own.
I thought this thread was going to be about Orgasmo

just be a good person?
You're basing your knowledge of a time period off of a movie. Even today, what movie picks "chubby, greasy fedoralords with kyphosis, lordosis, guys that dye their hair red or blue, skinny hipster kids" that ends up being a huge blockbuster and might live up for 50 years?
If we were 50 years in the future and watched a movie from today like one of the Fast and Furious movies, Transformers, Avenger etc, would you also think that the Earth was populated by top-models?
A man is someone who protects those that can't protect themselves.
Sounds like the op was written by a Klingon.
People live their lives bound by what they accept as correct and true. That's how they define "reality". But what does it mean to be "correct" or "true"? Merely vague concepts ... their "reality" may all be a mirage. Can we consider them to simply be living in their own world, shaped by their beliefs?
If the OP is still wondering what makes a man, he should just watch Fight Club and shut up.
trenchcoats, fedoras and tobbaco pipes like a le classy gentleman :-)

WHAT MAKES A MAN IS IT THE POWER IN HIS HANDS? IS IT HIS QUEST FOR GLORY?!
You're a "man" if you're a productive member of society, have dignity and honor, and are kind to others. That's it
You can have any type of physical appearance or sexual orientation you want. As long as you follow the above criteria you're a "man" in my eyes. Nerdy computer programmers are as much a man as a lumberjack in my eyes.

a man is someone who suplexes bears to death on a regular basis
Just let people do what they wan to do, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else.
Except be Guy Fieri. Fuck Guy Fieri.
I've never really understood why people find gender roles so important. Gender roles aren't universal, what may be considered "manly" in American culture will not apply to many other cultures. Look at South Korea or Japan as an example, cultures where androgyny in men are much more acceptable.
What I've learnt at an early age is that gender roles are primarily due to social constructs. It's interesting to see how people associate things like colour to a particular gender, pink for example used to be considered a male colour and blue was a female colour in 1920's America. Nowadays pink is considered a female colour. I'm not exactly sure what caused the switch but regardless, throughout our lives we are conditioned to think that way about colour, there are no real concrete biological reasons for this, which just goes to show that you can assign almost anything with a particular gender.
Why are so many male children's toys today combat oriented? Because way back when, male children in America typically became soldiers to fight in the war. Army men, toy tanks, toy guns, etcetera. All of these became part of the male gender role. Being tough, callus, hardy, strong were expected of young men back then. Same goes for female toys, doll houses, toy kitchens, toys more oriented with housework and cooking. Anyway, these traits continued to carry on in American culture but they are mostly obsolete, young men are no longer expected to go fight wars anymore, and women don't stay at home and tend the house anymore.
Knowing these things about gender has made it hard for me to understand why so many people still adhere to advocating these types of gender roles. I understand that if they're raised with those ideals enforced upon them it may be hard to think from other peoples point of view. Anyway, I hope that one day these gender roles will not be as important to people. I hope that one day people can be encouraged to act how they want to act rather than being restricted to a certain way of acting because of a few biological differences.

Concepts that people attach to "manliness" are really just traits of a decent human being mostly, gender roles are defunct and irrelevant. Also OP have you ever considered that maybe those "skinny hipster kids" are confident, outgoing, dignified, honourable, and able bodied? It's not as if you can't have both...
I mean shit, for the record I enjoy cutesy frilly stuff, romance, and fashion just as much I enjoy weightlifting, guns, mechanics, and action movies. I don't have any problems acting in an unconventional or androgynous manner, either.
Most men aren't very manly these days anyways, at least on the internet.
In my opinion it's mainly confidence, and not being a whiny little schoolgirl.
And it doesn't really matter if you do that, it's not really "manly", but if that's not something you care about go right on ahead. But everyone will judge everyone and that's not going away, I don't quite see a problem with judging others as long as it's kept to yourself unless they ask.
What's wrong with not having confidence? Why is being whiny equated with being a "schoolgirl"? Why the fuck does confidence or being whiny have anything to do with being "a man"?
Maybe if we were more inclusive and supportive of different people then we'd have more confident people?
;42535950']Maybe if we were more inclusive and supportive of different people then we'd have more confident people?
I agree.
This is something I think a lot of people really lack an understanding of. Telling someone to "man up and quit whining" doesn't actually solve the root of their problems, and goes against every single thing we've come to learn about psychology and therapy.
Another thing too is that just because someone's justification for their emotions is flawed, doesn't mean their emotions are fake.
What exactly do you mean by "feminized"?
the use of the word "feminine" as a negative trait interests me more than the use of masculinity as an ideal.
looking at the op it seems the word feminine is being used to describe the opposite of standards of masculinity - weak, helpless, unconfident. whether or not you're doing this consciously you're still expressing a belief that women are inferior and lack the positive traits that men have.
not only is this thread sexist towards men for believing that all of them have to attain the same traits of masculinity, it's sexist toward women for using them to describe the absence of positive traits.
males whining about their troublesome relationship and being pussywhipped.
so you believe women shouldn't have an equal say in relationships and it's a man's responsibility to assert dominance over his partner. cool.
