What really fascinates me is why they brought a SWAT team. It's a middle aged white guy, with a wife and kid, living in a very nice looking neighborhood, obviously has a good job if he can afford to live there. What made them think they need a swat team to deal with him?
I would understand if the dog were to have attacked him

poor little dog
Was it not Benjamin Franklin that said a man that would trade freedom for security deserves neither? What's happening is people are doing just that, and losing both.
they don't get that though. they don't care if SWAT sometimes kills innocent civilians and their pets as long as it looks like they're keeping the MEXICANS and MUSLIM TERRORISTS out
Again, the conversation devolves into jabs over the details of the matter instead of the major theme. The police should not have been there. A loose examination of the cause and effect leading to these home invasions:
A threat to the status quo causes insecurity within elements of the ruling class.

Moralistic imperative influences lawmakers into drafting legislation which outlaws recreational drug usage, protecting the people from themselves.

With said laws enacted, law enforcement is charged with enforcing them.

Black market distribution ensues with a concurrent rise in what is now a criminal element.

Law enforcement is expanded and specialized to combat said criminal element.

Demand for drugs expands to a saturation point, after which there is decreasing incentive for that criminal element to increase operations on a risk/reward basis.

Specialized branch of law enforcement continues to expand and now has to justify its own existence in the face of continually escalating costs and no significant progress.

Reduction in size of law enforcement is unpalatable politically, and the force with the guns losing jobs is a scare tactic in itself.

More aggressive measures are taken to publicly prove the necessity for an extensive domestic police system, resulting in more operations executed.

Citizens become fearful as they become arbitrarily targeted and are left with little recourse.

A blitzing barrage of propaganda states the case for the police force, contrary to what popular opinion is likely to have become.

The state devolves into totalitarianism and destroys its own constituents to stay in power.
The progression is very insidious and slow at first. Toward the end, the changes occur very rapidly as government (whether it be a king, emperor, dictatorship, congress, etc) struggles to ensure there are no threats within its borders. Collapses have occurred this way many times throughout history and there is nothing to suggest that this time will be any different. The only thing that changes is the size of the governing body and the population.
citation needed
SWAT- Stupid Wankers Acting Tough
IMO, in a normal circunstance where a full swat squad is called, as in, to seize a serial murderer / criminal with hostages etc, you would be too busy to fucking do shit about the dog then you would normally just shoot him, he's not important in such situation. The dog is not that much important, the true problem here is the mistake they did by invading, wrongly (or not, come on the guy was unnarmed you didn't need a full squad for that shit) a house with a full family and children.
This is extremely old and the SWAT officer who shot the dog was fired and fined. Jesus fucking Christ this late. I can't produce the article though, I haven't found it on Google at all anywhere. But just a side note...it seems we're being shown more failings of the police because we don't see the successes. We just had a raid on a no junkie hideout and SWAT teams found a bunch of guys with a crap load of guns along with a ton of cocaine and marijuana stash. They lost two officers because they were only expect pistols but they were met with shotguns and semi automatic rifles. A third was severely wounded. If any of you live near Philadelphia then you would know that SWAT raids have produced a large amount of illegal arms and drugs and haven't failed yet. It may be an area thing but I know the cops in my area really on deserve some respect for the bullshit they put up with.
This is tragic and completely unnecessary. I live in Las Vegas and the cops here will shoot you. There have been several cases of cops just going all out and capping innocent people. It's a shame to think we are "protected" by people like this.
This is the kind of stuff that makes me lose faith in my country. I have 2 dogs (black labradors) and it was hard to watch the first minute of it. Also, semi-interesting thing: the gate at 2:05 is the same type of gate i have for my dogs
wife: so, how was work today? husband: yeah, it was great. Yelled at a guy for no reason AND shot his dog!
Pictured below, dangerous attack guard demon dog: This is why I only trust police as far as I can throw them, humans get drugged with power too fast to go unregulated like this, and they get away with this shit too, hell, I remember one where they shot a kid to death and they still let him work with him ever seeing a jury.
I don't think any swat officer should be forced to let himself get bit by a dog when you work in a field like that you don't take stupid ass chances like that, you only get one body and they are trained to protect it. it could be an aids crack dog, they don't have the luxury of finding out before they get some fucking disease
Only a badge or a title tells the authority from a killer these days. I really fucking hate this world! Every day a little bit more ...

Nice bump bro. [editline]7th February 2011[/editline] Kind of doubt anyone is willing to argue with you after a month for a response.
