My suggestion is that you get used to growls. Mikael's growls are a big part of the band, and it will be a shit ton more enjoyable if you get used to them, and even learn to like them :v:

Other than that, the only album I can think of that doesn't focus a lot on growls would be the newest one, Watershed.

It saddens me somewhat that Progressive Rock has kinda faded away a bit. Not many people I know appreciate the epic talent and skill of bands like Yes, Rush and Pink Floyd. I'm all alone in my prog rock world :saddowns:

The last six weeks I've had a substitute guitar teacher who is a massive prog rock fan. In the second week I showed him a part of a song from a group called Medeski, Martin & Wood (not prog but it was amazing how he knew about them too) that I had learned by ear, and he recognized it. Later when I showed him what I used as a warm up exercise, a part from fraKctrued by King Crimson, he started playing Discipline to me :v:

I'm getting my normal guitar teacher back, who makes me play things like Guns N' Roses. He's a better teacher though.

In a way it's still alive in modern experimental rock, Animal Collective are probably the closest you'd get to the experimental stuff that Pink Floyd did.

Then there's bands like The Antlers, Dirty Projectors, Battles, HEALTH, Liars, Mogwai, TV on the Radio and way more.
