So if I were going to get an Opeth album which one (other than Damnation) has the least emphasis on death growls? Death metal instrumentals are fine.
My suggestion is that you get used to growls. Mikael's growls are a big part of the band, and it will be a shit ton more enjoyable if you get used to them, and even learn to like them :v: Other than that, the only album I can think of that doesn't focus a lot on growls would be the newest one, Watershed. [editline]5th May 2011[/editline]
I guess Starless & Bible Black or Islands out of the ones I've heard, but I meant more generally songs like Providence or Starless & Bible Black or something
You don't like Providence? :frown: [editline]5th May 2011[/editline]
Peart's drum solo was great. I really liked when the drumkit turned and he started using the electronic drums. Also, I agree that there should've been Xanadu or Cygnus X-1 instead of some more unkown songs.
The problem is that Geddy is pretty much unable to hit those high tones now.
The problem is that Geddy is pretty much unable to hit those high tones now.
Seemed to hit them well enough :v:. Even so, he could just "remake" the vocals like he did on 2112, so they aren't as high. Just made a playlist out of the setlist :smug:
Just made a playlist out of the setlist :smug:
Could you share? :v: [editline]5th May 2011[/editline] As in just show me the name of the songs.
Same price I got mine :aaa:
I was just digging in a section randomly and I pulled it out and I was like "WOAH"... the package is awesome. Complete with poster too.
I was just digging in a section randomly and I pulled it out and I was like "WOAH"... the package is awesome. Complete with poster too.
Can you still see the dong on the cover?
Can you still see the dong on the cover?
dong?
dong?
There was a penis on the original cover, but it was airbrushed out, on the original sleeves you can still somewhat see it.
:wtc: show me an image.
I've only got the CD version, which had it removed completely. If yours is an original, it will have it.
I've only got the CD version, which had it removed completely. If yours is an original, it will have it.
Do you mean the front cover or the inners?
Do you mean the front cover or the inners?
Front.
Ohhh, never saw this before.
Giger really liked putting dicks all over his paintings. The alien from the movie 'Alien' originally had a dick for a head, but it was modified to just be a tube :v: Went to his art show last summer.
Has anyone here heard of Beardfish? I saw their latest release on a shelf in a record store, thought the album looked interesting, asked what it was and was more interested, so we listened to it and it's pretty good. Someone should've mentioned them before :v: [editline]5th May 2011[/editline]
Giger really liked putting dicks all over his paintings.
Yeah I saw some of his works, is he obsessed or what?
Or he just likes drawing dicks. Because we all like drawing dicks, right?
He was pretty obsessed with sexuality and genitalia. It features in pretty much every piece of his art
Or he just likes drawing dicks. Because we all like drawing dicks, right?
I think that might be the reason why ELP apparently didn't pay him for the artwork. Sneakily putting a penis there without them knowing?

Anyone here listening to Thanatopsis? Not the most proggy, but I'm definitely feeling some Camel influence here. Which is always a good thing. :smug:
Speaking of dong: http://www.cracked.com/funny-2359-progressive-rock/ Truest send-up of progressive rock I've seen anywhere :v:
It saddens me somewhat that Progressive Rock has kinda faded away a bit. Not many people I know appreciate the epic talent and skill of bands like Yes, Rush and Pink Floyd. I'm all alone in my prog rock world :saddowns:

The last six weeks I've had a substitute guitar teacher who is a massive prog rock fan. In the second week I showed him a part of a song from a group called Medeski, Martin & Wood (not prog but it was amazing how he knew about them too) that I had learned by ear, and he recognized it. Later when I showed him what I used as a warm up exercise, a part from fraKctrued by King Crimson, he started playing Discipline to me :v: I'm getting my normal guitar teacher back, who makes me play things like Guns N' Roses. He's a better teacher though.
Anyone I have ever mentioned Prog Rock to has either been  or rolled their eyes. :frown:
The worst is when people just go "what the hell, the songs go for more than 5 minutes? my attention span is nowhere big enough to deal with that, next song" Makes me mad.

Then there's bands like The Antlers, Dirty Projectors, Battles, HEALTH, Liars, Mogwai, TV on the Radio and way more.
