I recently discovered Mandrake, an early project by Susumu Hirasawa.

They're playing near me in November :iia:
Playing 21'st First Century Schizoid Man on Audiosurf is fucking mad. :pwn:
I've seen better/worse.
I just discovered my dad had a conversation will Bill Bruford for about 30 minutes once. Lucky bastard.
So here's my bands technical prog metal song, couldn't think of anywhere else to post it other than the year old thread about my band.

Ending is taken from Octavarium by Dream Theater. I think it worked out pretty well
Steven Wilson just announced a solo tour yay
pity its not coming to Australia.

The original stuff is pretty good. Some parts didn't sound right on the final solo of your band's cover of Octavarium. But otherwise it sounded great.

Golf Girl is the most British song I have ever heard.
Also, Love to Love You is an awesome song. As is Nine Feet Underground

And it's with Marco Minnemann. Why do they always leave us out for the amazing tours?

And Theo Travis, would be so fucking amazing.
can kinda of understand why Aus never gets the good tours though, its probably pretty low budget as a tour and they can't afford to kart all that equipment overseas just for like 4 shows. I'm just glad the Wall is coming here next year. Booking that next week or the week after.
Almost done Caravan, next on my list is either Soft Machine or Yes. Then Jefferson Airplane

I get a double whammy because I live in Adelaide, so no bands come here even if they do come to Aus. I'm hopefully going to Melbourne for The Wall though. That will be fucking amazing.'
Just had my first listen through Fly From Here. I have to say I really really like it. Benoit David might not be Jon Anderson, but he's damn good. And the songwriting is pretty consistently great. Into The Storm and all of Fly From Here (except Bumpy Ride, that one's too cheesy for my tastes) are fantastic.
I really need to listen to the new Yes album. Could you say it's better than Magnification?
I really need to listen to the new Yes album. Could you say it's better than Magnification?
I never listened to Magnification all that much. It never really grabbed me. So yes, I prefer Fly From Here
Well... which "later" Yes album do you like?
Probably The Ladder
I really should listen to the '90s Yes albums.
Aside from the giants like Yes and King Crimson, I also love the band Gentle Giant, who were creative geniuses (except on their final two albums, where they apparently went for a poppier approach) yet relatively unknown, so I might as well post something about them here. Along with the traditional guitar, bass, keyboards and drums, they often included complex vocal harmonies and violin, xylophone, flute, cello and odd percussion. I find their live performances (available on youtube) to be particularly mind blowing, for example:

I'd also recommend So Sincere from this concert.
On the internet I read about how they once went on tour opening for Black Sabbath. You can probably imagine why the crowd was upset.
Their bassist Ray Shulman and drummer John Weathers also make some very cool facial expressions.
See 2:08 and 4:35

Soft Machine is like that too, good band, relatively unknown

I think back in the day "Third" was a popular album. But their other stuff probably gets overlooked.
What do I follow up my 5 listens of DSOTM with?
I've been thinking of checking out Rush honestly, and I get my new headphones today, so any suggestions?

Porcupine Tree's Stupid Dream. It's chilled.

This and
Rush's "2112" or "A Farewell To Kings"
King Crimson's "In The Court Of The Crimson King"
Genesis' "Foxtrot"
Transatlantic's "The Whirlwind"
These should have you occupied for a while.
2112

Trivia - Jimi Hendrix expressed a great deal of interest in becoming a member of Emerson, Lake and Palmer and playing progressive but died 26 days after organising a jam session with them. The jam never happened.
Fuck that would have been great.
