"HELP" would've been a superb band. :pwn:
I dunno, I think having the keyboard as the lead instrument was what really made ELP and set them apart from the other prog acts of the time
Porcupine Tree's Stupid Dream. It's chilled.
Listening to it now.
Pretty amazing stuff, I especially like Pure Narcotic.
This and
Rush's "2112" or "A Farewell To Kings"
King Crimson's "In The Court Of The Crimson King"
Genesis' "Foxtrot"
Transatlantic's "The Whirlwind"
These should have you occupied for a while.
Going to listen to all of these next. I had no clue King Crimson was Prog Rock.
Is this your favorite genre, Akayz?

You still can't deny that it would've been fucking awesome

heh, they're known to be one of the inventors of prog rock
Up until recently I never really considered "progressive rock" to be all that widely used a term. I was amazed to look up bands like Journey and stuff, and see that they had been labeled as such.
I also looked up famous albums like Bat Out Of Hell, and Tubular Bells, seeing that they were progressive rock. As a result of that, I gave Tubular Bells a full listen, and really liked it. I HAD heard it before as a kid, and never liked it. I remember laughing with my sister about how silly it was that the man named all the instruments.
I will also listen to Bat Out Of Hell, which I never did.
Man, I always thought Progressive Rock was just Pink Floyd.

Bands like Queen, Supertramp, and Jefferson Airplane have all been labelled to be progressive rock at some point in their lifetime. In the late 60's and early 70 most of the bands incorporated prog elements into their music.
I know, it's so much more than I expected.
I remember reading that Yes was progressive rock from a Hipster Hitler comic, and that was the second progressive rock band I knew of.
Anyway I listened to Bat Out Of Hell and was disappointed.

Queen's first 2 albums, as well as Night at the Opera are all very prog. The Prophet's Song especially.

I have developed a love for Prog over the past two years, but I don't have a favourite. People associate me with soul. :>
you know it's your favorite Akayz, don't delude yourself

Oh right, with the Marvin Gaye and all that. Going to acquire me some King Crimson now. Probably won't have time to listen before work though, sadly.
Well shit
Opeth are playing on the same day as Yes (the only day it would have been best for me to go to)
What to choose what to choose
I'll go with Opeth

The train from York to Newcastle is cheaper than Manchester, plus it's on the ECML so it's quicker too.
Plus Opeth is like £10 cheaper than Yes anyway

It'll be better that Me and Corky's Wall concert
I may also be going to the Newcastle one. We should meet and be excellent together
I'm gonna try to go as well because seeing opeth two days in a row is just too good an opportunity to pass up
Thought you'd get the LP version, but I heard that was expensive.
I listened to the album already and decided it wouldn't be worth it
And besides, my dad bought this for me because I've pretty much completely re-organised his music library and fixed his iPod
just bought Yes - 90125 and Pink Floyd - Animals. And my janitor borrowed me Yes - Close to the edge
it's so awesome
Nice thread! I just discovered the whole sub-genre of prog recently after listening to early Genesis, and I have to say my mind has been blown! Such a level of creativity, virtuosity, and depth is amazing! I just ordered the Genesis Platinum Collection and, of course, the classic: The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, along with the album: In the Court of the Crimson King.
Anyone seen the big band arrangement of Futile by PT? It's awesome.

Plus, Gavin Harrison is a beast.
I saw him play it at a drum clinic in Edinburgh. Despite not being a drummer it was incredibly rewarding and he signed my ticket post show. Legend :neckbeard:
-snip, wrong thread
Just discovered something you may like to know:

You like that first section of acoustic, yeah? Even when the vocals start up....
It's a variation/rip off of this.

Caravan have some really really shit lyrics
Standing on a golf course
Dressed in P.V.C.
I chanced upon a Golf Girl
Selling cups of tea
She asked me did I want one
Asked me with a grin
For three pence you can buy one
Full right to the brim
So of course I had to have one
In fact I ordered three
So I could watch the Golf Girl
Could see she fancied me
And later on the golf course
After drinking tea
It started raining golf balls
And she protected me
Her name was Pat
And we sat under a tree
She kissed me
We go for walks
In fine weather
All together
On the golf course
We talk in morse
Lucky the music is so good because seriously
