Decided to listen to the sadly, quite short Transatlantic Discography.
Currently doing a Yes discography listen
Just started on Close To The Edge, only 15 hours to go. :v:
I also got Neverender on DVD for 10 bucks last week. Fuck yeah
Neverender is fucking great. I can't find it on DVD anywhere!

It's amazing. 20 minute improvised version of The Willing Well IV: The Final Cut anyone? And Claudio has such awesome stage presence.
Did I mention he plays the theremin... WITH HIS HAIR?!
Barclay James Harvest! If you haven't listened, get into them!

I've noticed that there is a significant lack of love for Neal Morse and Spock's Beard in this thread. The man really is a genius.

I've heard they're great. Never listened to them though.
NEW OPETH SONG!

It's amazing. So prog/jazz fusion. People are saying it doesn't sound like Opeth, but I think it sounds like a very logical progression from Watershed.

This is something else, absolutely fantastic though I find the "god is dead" bit a bit cliched.
Holy shit lol, there's a bit of noise in there at around 4:20 which I know from Porcupine Tree

Very interesting. but good. Barclay James Harvest were listed in Wikipedia as prog so I picked up some stuff and was pleasantly surprised. Bit of a hit and a miss with some of their songs but this stuff is really really interesting in parts. A lot of it is bland and then there's tracks that make you sit up and wow.

If you're running out of prog to play, pick up octoberon or their first album. Preferably octoberon, good album.
Get their first album and octoberon, those are the gems. The others are just your average prog with a few good tracks here and there.

I'll comment as I listen:
Dat jazz fusion
Reminds me of The Mars Volta a little actually (their Frances the Mute album anyway)
production sounds a little flat, and Akerfeldt's vocals seem really quiet (could just be the video quality)
The "riffing" sounds like the Opeth we all know and love though
I'm extremely grateful it's more lively than anything off Damnation
3:55 sounds like a Dream Theater-style fill, dunno if that's a good or a bad thing
The keyboard bit at 4:40 is pretty cool
Followed by this drumming, this is kickass
Also a pretty standard Opeth guitar solo, nothing ground-breaking here
Overall a good track, though it doesn't seem to be able to keep focused on any one element long enough to make it memorable. If this is the album's best track then I'll be disappointed.

Broken Record time
My Dad Played Frisbee and Sold them Drugs
I saw BJH, Neal Morse and Spock's Beard at High Voltage last week :buddy:
Hmmm I'm not sure if I should get the limited edition of Grace for Drowning or not. It's $96 AUS to get it from Burning Shed...

I'm having the same problems. Probs will but.
Any Children of Nova fans here? I recommend them, if you enjoy Dream Theater.

Some cool electronic elements too, reminiscent of Tangerine Dream.
Can anyone recommend me some albums with songs like Even Less?
Been listening to it about 10 times a day.
An important distinction with Grace For Drowning is that the heavy parts that would be played in a metal style on a P-Tree release have a different flavor here, particularly as a lot of the sounds on Wilson’s second solo effort are not produced by guitars. “I think [with] the metal thing for me, the party’s over,” Wilson admitted to A.D.D. following the afternoon listening session.
Good, I think if PT did another metal based record it just wouldn't work

Come to think of it, I can't stop listening to Stupid Dream in general.

Wow, it sounds very similar to DSOTM.
It's really nice so far. A bit of a mix between 2112 and DSOTM.
I love "Psychedelic Sundays" on the radio station I listen to, they played On The Run, then Heart Of The Sunrise right afterwards.
Best Frank Zappa album?
I've already heard Hot Rats.

We're Only In It For The Money.
But my favourite is Lumpy Gravy, which is completely insane.
I'm not good at following bands with inconsistent lineups, so I'd like some King Crimson and Yes reccomendations, if you all wouldn't mind.
For King Crimson, just... the best stuff, really. I'm assuming I'll just be listening to stuff like Lark's Tongues and Red? As for Yes, any albums similar to Fragile? Something with great basslines, catchy songwriting and uh, Rick Wakeman. :v:

With King Crimson you'd want to take in their Jazzy stuff, then the new wave and finally the more hard hitting metal oriented stuff.
Go for In The Wake of Poseidon and Lizard first and progress with what you said.
as for Yes
it's "The Yes Album" (not just "Yes") and Close to the Edge. Those albums are ruthless and a great experience.

also Relayer, then you can try their pop stuff which is also good and more catchy but less mesmorizing.

To be honest following King Crimson in chronological order could be quite a good idea but if I were you, start with Court of the Crimson King, then Lizard, THEN Red and Lark's Tongue in Aspic, then if you're looking into their 80's stuff try Discipline, and for 90's try THRAK
