Heh, Benoit David is 45 years old.
Although I personally don't think the title track can count as one 25-minute song, because the individual parts each sound very different and are structured as individual songs, and they don't really blend together that well.
Finally. The recording of Änglagårds third album starts today. The plan is to record drums on two songs, and possibly some grand piano and Timpani. Thomas and Jonas have been working hard this weekend getting all the monitor files in order and I have been trying to figure out how much crapola Ill be bringing to the studio. With a bit of luck it will all work out.
Holy shit, awesome
Raphael...thank you for your question. The new material sort of starts off stylistically where Epilog ended. Its very Änglagård. Messy rhythms and big pastoral parts. Acoustic sections with flute, mellotron and acoustic guitars. The new material is really challenging to play and with a bit of luck fun to listen to...// Mattias

I think it is a mix between the two [previous albums]...We are pretty aware of our own cliches that we have a tendency to use so it is a question of using the cliches when we feel they serve a purpose and avoid them otherwise.

The dynamics are still there. Distorted bass. Mellotrons. Ridiculous drumkit.
Guys I know at least some of you know a shit load of bands. I just found this one on progarchives and it caught my attention with the badass name of "Skryvania" and one of the coolest album covers I have ever seen. I listened to one of their songs on youtube which only has like 24 views. I guess they were a mid 1970s band from france and only released one album.

Just listened to this one song, and it's not bad! It's the kind of stuff that isn't trying to hard with a bunch of experimentation and weird shit. Just a pretty standard symphonic prog instrumental. Worth checking out.
You "guess" the YouTube description? Yeah, OK.
You "guess" the YouTube description? Yeah, OK.
Sorry just a speaking/typing habit.
it's ok
french prog is cool
it got reissued on cd by musea (who also released ange and atoll cds) so it can't be that obscure
also, i bought l'océan and illian, j'entends gronder la terre by atoll since i couldn't find them online at all, even though everyone on progarchives say it turned into pop shit (which isn't false really) it's not that bad and illian is a big improvement, even though chris beya is a retard for using the atoll name for his new band. i want to hear tokyo c'est fini since they apparently got good recordings of older songs, but i can't find it either, not even for sale. EDIT: OH WAIT NEVERMIND I FOUND IT
if you have no idea what i'm talking about you are a heretic and should acquire l'araignée-mal and tertio right away
What is an album that should get me into prog rock
I think my first prog album was In the Court of the Crimson King by King Crimson, though it's pretty jazzy and experimental, I don't know if it's very representative of most prog, Yes's Close to the Edge is cool too.
Oh wait no, my first prog album was Pink Floyd's The Wall.
I've heard that album I think, didn't really like it the first time around
will re listen to it sometime soon
Yes has a very different style so you should still try that even if you can't get into King Crimson. Even my grandmother likes Yes.
Will do
Try some early 2000's era Porcupine Tree. Quite prog, but still very accessible
yeah I really need to get around to that
Wow I love progarchives, it just introduced me to a band called "Lucifer's Friend", it's like a perfect band for me. It's a lot like black sabbath and deep purple, but I guess it's considered hard prog somehow. It sounds more classic metal than prog. Oh well if you haven't heard of them go look it up on youtube now it's amazing.

Hawkwind is so awesome, Lemmy used to be their bassist.
Finally found out why people were calling Lucifer's Friend one of the first prog bands. The rest of their songs sound more like bluesy metal like Black Sabbath and Deep Purple.

This song is freaking awesome, give it a listen. Dat bass.
Well, I think its pretty obvious that a prog rock thread would know if Yes would make a new album.
I realized this as soon as I posted, but I was just so excited, and shocked that I hadn't heard about it. Got overeager.

fucking goddamn yes
I love these guys. If any of you have a chance, listen to this goddamn album. It's one of the best little gems from the '70s.

Yet another track from Grace for Drowning! That's three now. Also, if you listen to wnyc's stream of his interview, there's a live performance of Postcard.
This makes me even more happy that I got the special edition. Can't wait to hear the album in 5.1
You guys ever heard of Eloy? They're pretty fuckin' cool

Never heard of them, they sound really good! The vocalist reminds me of Dennis De Young but the rest of the band sounds Yes-ish

dat bass
Ok I have listened to 3 Lucifer's Friends albums. These guys should be way more prominent in my opinion, pretty much everything I have heard from them is superb. They changed directions for every album I have listened to it seems, their album "Banquet" seems to be their most proggish, it's an amazing album and I recommend you go listen to it.

my favorite song off the album, sorry if I am late or anything but these guys are awesome.

You just can't get back no more...
Favourite prog song at the moment?
Night Watch by King Crimson I'm going to have go for.
Octavarium by Dream Theater
I second that. ^
