Oh also, has anyone heard of Glass Hammer? They have a concept album called Chronometree about a drug-addled prog rock fan who thinks that aliens are speaking to him through the progressive music :v:
Its actually quite good too.

A toss-up between The Ministry of Lost Souls and The Shattered Fortress, both by DT

It's a hard choice between Octavarium and Anesthetize by PT, but I think Octavarium wins out.
Listening to In Absentia a lot these days... it's incredibly easy to listen to. More so than Dark Side of the Moon I feel but that's just me. :>
Stupid Dream has such an uncannily "Floyd-ey" feel to it, it's scary.
Sky Moves Sideways too. In fact I'd go as far as to say they're the modern interpretation of a Floyd band.

Well Steven has basically said that when he started PT he was trying to be Pink Floyd 2.
Well he succeeded. But I've only heard about 4 albums from them, so I'll have to wait and see.
But I've read interviews saying he doesn't like the band being compared to Pink Floyd, saying something like "there's no room for originality if you're the 'new' version of an old band", or something to that effect.
Guys
This, right here, is Israeli progressive metal produced by motherfucking Steven Wilson

That was actually pretty awesome. I especially liked the end of the song, after the quiet bit.

That's how the first few albums started, mostly because of the way it started off, and then fans picked it up as the second Pink Floyd and he tried to please them by making more Floydesque records. Then at the same time, his other band, No-man was looking to go in a more commercialised direction to make more money, so at that point he just decided "No way" and decided to screw pleasing his fans or doing things for money and both Porcupine Tree and No-Man changed drastically.

As grey traces of dawn tinge the eastern sky,
the three travelers, men of Willowdale,
emerge from the forest shadow.
Fording the River Dawn, they turn south, journeying
into the dark and forbidding lands of the Necromancer
Even now the intensity of his dread power can be felt,
weakening the body and saddening the heart
Ultimately they will become empty, mindless spectres...
stripped of will and soul, only
their thirst for freedom gives them hunger for vengeance

By far my favourite song by Rush, the first part is on a complete level of it's own.

Why is it that Caress of Steel is like their most underrated album. I think it's on par with 2112, to say the least. All of the songs on it are pretty great. It's not as good as Hemispheres, A Farewell to Kings and Permanent Waves, though.
On the topic of Rush, anyone else really like Jacobs Ladder? It's always been one of my favourite songs by them, but it doesn't seem that popular.
Would you look at that, Porcupine Tree has become my most listened to artist on Last.fm in roughly 3 months :v:.
Oh, and favourite prog song right now would be What Happens Now? by PT, from their Nil Recurring EP. Anyone who hasn't listened to it yet, go do that right now, it's an amazing EP.
Also, is it just me, or is the middle section to South Side of the Sky one of the absolute finest musical things ever written. I mean, the drums, bass, piano, vocals, everything, just so perfect.
Helllooo Steven Wilson music video number two

Fuck this is interesting, the bit where the music broke out shocked the hell out of me. I have now heard 4 songs off the EP and this is going to be something special, can tell you now. Video's fantastic as well, whole song reminds me of the kind of person who 'collects people' and manipulates them.
Also What Happens Now I'm only a moderate fan of, I found Nil Recurring to be the best song off that EP.
I'm liking the discomforting vibe of his videos so far. And the music is great too of course.
