Haven't listened to a lot of the live stuff. I have a few of their recent jazz performances but that's all.
Absent Lovers is a great live album, but The Great Deceiver is just daunting, its like 4 discs long and full of improvisation.
4 hours of king crimson improv sounds like my kind of thing :D
looking at some of the tracklist doesn't really seem like improv and just "extended" versions of songs.

Yeah, there's a lot of both really, everything extended would be improv and some of the tracks like Shark's Tongue in Lemsip are whatever they are, I don't even know. I imagine they're improvisations because i've never heard of them.
Also, Ladies of the Road Disc 2 is a 46 minute version of 21st Schizoid Man. :wtc:
I just grabbed Caravan's "If I could do it again, I'd do it all over you" and I seriously seriously recommend it. Anyone who was a fan of In the Land of Grey and Pink will love it.
New Steve Wilson video got released. This one's for Remainder The Black Dog (the song that was released as a freebie a while back)

Disturbing stuff...
But awesome.

Awesome. A little mellow, but awesome.
Such a looong video as well. Kinda want to know what the fuck is going on. Out of the three i've seen so far, Index has been the best video. Not that the others are bad but in a way they're just surreal with no direction, track one was strange, Remainder I can't make any sense out of.
Aaa, why is he releasing all these songs! I'm trying not to listen to them that much before I get the album itself, but I'm having a hard time because they're all so damn good :v:
Holy shit, new Opeth was leaked
Holy shit, new Opeth was leaked
I'm not going to download this one, my friends and I have a Heritage listening party planned :v:
That sounds like a good idea, but I only know one other guy who listens to Opeth :saddowns:
I'm about halfway through it right now and I can safely say it is excellent
When's it being released? I've got my copy pre-ordered.
if it got leaked I might grab it to have a listen before I buy it
Holy crap Dream Theater is amazing. I've never listened to them before today, but Octavarium is an awesome album.
I'm a bit confused as why it's considered Prog Metal, it seems more alternative/prog rock to me.

Octavarium is less metal than alot of their other albums. Systematic Chaos, Train of Thought and Awake are all pretty heavy.

After careful deliberation I've decided to whet my appetite with two shorter tracks, but leave the rest for when my copy arrives. I love listening to albums in 5.1 first off.
Marrow of the Earth sounds really nice. Very mellow and jazzy, but with that sense of evil and folkiness that Opeth build their sound around.
I'm loving The Lines in My Hand. Very very cool sound. (although for some reason I'm hearing ridiculous amounts of low end. I doubt that's the mixing though, cause Steve is an amazing sound guy. It's probably just something to do with the way it's been uploaded to Youtube.)
Can't wait to hear the whole thing.
For anyone who wants a taste but doesn't want to spoil the album, here's some samples.

Pretty bad audio quality, but gives you a good idea. Sounds really really nice.

Steven does good 5.1 mixes but actually, some of his albums I've been quite disappointed with. I thought the incident was quite poor compared to In Absentia or Insurgentes, and some of his mixes for other bands I wouldn't say are perfect. When he's on top everything is right in the world though. Probably the youtube version.
Lines in my Hand was good. I really like Haxprocess, actually. I think its great. Famine is awesome as well, probably my favourite track on it.
I recommend:

I really like it, and i actually feel entertained through the whole song, unlike many other songs of this length

So I've seen a distinct lack of Queensrÿche love here.
I decided to listen to Operation: Mindcrime after reading it beat out Octavarium on a top 100 prog metal albums list.
We can discuss progressive metal here too, right?

Queensryche are a bit of an odd one though in that Operation Mindcrime was the only really good album they released
Operation Mindcrime is a fantastic album, but I'm personally not to big on their last couple albums

Queensryche have a couple of really fantastic albums, some good albums, and some really not very good albums.
Did anyone hear about the new Transatlantic live 2 DVD/3 CD set? Live in Tilburg and Manchester. Not sure if I should get it or not, seeing as I have the London DVD, and it's essentially the same set.
There's also a new Neal Morse live 2 DVD/3 CD set of Testimony 2 live in LA (with Mike Portnoy). That's a definite buy for me.
