Queensryche have a couple of really fantastic albums, some good albums, and some really not very good albums.
Did anyone hear about the new Transatlantic live 2 DVD/3 CD set? Live in Tilburg and Manchester. Not sure if I should get it or not, seeing as I have the London DVD, and it's essentially the same set.
There's also a new Neal Morse live 2 DVD/3 CD set of Testimony 2 live in LA (with Mike Portnoy). That's a definite buy for me.
I know one of the guitar players who tours with them. Parker Lundgren. He's from my town.
But yeah, I've been listening to In the Wake of Poseidon by King Crimson, and Space Shanty by Khan. Khan was fucking hard to find. But it's a badass album. Look up "Driving to Amsterdam."
So I've seen a distinct lack of Queensrÿche love here.
I decided to listen to Operation: Mindcrime after reading it beat out Octavarium on a top 100 prog metal albums list.
We can discuss progressive metal here too, right?
Empire and before were their only really good albums. I fucking LOVE The Warning though. NM 156 was such a great song.
Oh and here's him with Dio, not a big deal or anything

That was beautiful.
Also, just bought Deadwing by Porcupine Tree, what should I get next?

Why does he have both a regular mic AND a madonna mic? That seems redundant...
But Geoff is one of the best vocalists in metal, I agree.
Also, that guitar tone is ungodly. Queensryche have gone through a series of pretty mediocre guitarists ever since Chris DeGarmo left. Mike Stone was a complete wanker. He tried to give John Petrucci guitar tips.
John Petrucci...
I've thought long and hard about Abbey Road being a prog rock album. (actually I only thought about it while listening to it)
And I've decided that it's not as prog as some say it is.
The Medley is "just a medley".
Prog songs are journeys of one song and taking new directions within it. Can't really call every single medley that is made a "prog" song.
I've come across Emerson Lake and Palmer. Furthermore their Works Volume 1 album
I'm already in love

No shit, it was a bunch of unfinished songs they'd edited together

Prog as fuck
Been listening to a fair bit of Porcupine Tree lately. Was wondering if anyone would recommend that I pre-order Steven Wilson's next album. I only ask because it'll cost about $111 for the fancypants version and I don't want to have wasted my money.

I plan to preoder that version. Listen to the tracks he's released and see what you think. Also check out his first solo album. I find his solo stuff to be a bit of a melting pot of all the other stuff he's done, bit of PT, bit of Blackfield, bit of Bass Comm etc
The thing is, I don't have that much money so pre-ordering this puts a significant dent in my account.
I think I've got some hard drive space issues too.
[editline]11th September 2011[/editline]
How likely is it that that version of the album will still be available after release day?

Double post?
One thing I will say is if you decide you don't like it, chances are you'll be able to sell it for way more than you bought it for
-snip-
I'm getting in on this PT discussion.
What album should I buy with them, I just bought Deadwing, loved it, and I wanna know what I should look into next.
Should I check out Steve Wilsons' solo stuff next?
In Absentia or Stupid Dream I'd say. Steven's solo stuff is quite different from PT
After Stupid Dream you should definitely check out Signify. It'll give you a better taste of their more proggy stuff.
Stupid Dream > In Absentia > Deadwing > Fear Of A Blank Planet > the rest
Stupid Dream > In Absentia > Signify > The Incident > the rest
I think it's a collective opinion that Stupid Dream and In Absentia are both unmatchable
There really isn't such a thing as a bad Porcupine Tree album

The Incident is the closest in my opinion.
Its not really that bad, but REALLY boring.
On holiday, I was listening to In Absentia when I was in the pool. My mother came in and said she really liked the music.
Knew she had it in her. :>

Psychedelic baby.

Vocals and lyrics are dope.

I was playing Lightbulb Sun in the car, and in the middle of How Is Your Life Today my mum just says "I love Porcupine Tree!"
I was proud.
Also, albums in my opinion go:
Stupid Dream>Deadwing>(only slightly)In Absentia>The Incident>FOABP>Lightbulb Sun>The Sky Moves Sideways>Signify
Not to say that I don't like all of them!
Got myself some tickets for the Dream Theater gig on 23.1.
Can I come too?
You gotta pay for your own tickets

[del]I've heard they may be doing a second European leg of the tour, which I may go to[/del]

also 23rd Jan is my birthday woo

Does that mean I'm going to be disappointed later then? All I've listened to are Stupid Dream and In Absentia so far.
Oh, on a less related note, Wish You Were Here came out 36 years ago today. I know I'm going to give it another listen just for that occasion.
