I've ben looking for Closer to the Edge for ages now! I can't fucking find it!
Recommend The Yes Album?
Yeah, grab it on LP if you can.. it's bombastic.
I can't really get into the Yes Album, it's not quite as energetic as their later stuff

I can't really get into their later stuff, it's not quite as AMAZING as their early 70s stuff.
And I'm confused because The Yes Album is probably their most energetic 70s album, so does that mean you can't get into their earlier stuff at all?

oh man the reverse side of the coin says "United States of Opeth - In Prog We Trust"
Gotta love Opeth.
Oh screw you, I want that.
I've been wanting to get into some prog rock recently, but I've only really listened to Pink Floyd and Rush. I'm a huge fan of prog metal, but I've been wanting to get into some softer stuff. What do you recommend for starters?
I can't recommend Porcupine Tree's Fear of a Blank Planet highly enough. Also try The Light by Spock's Beard, Close to the Edge by Yes, Milliontown by Frost*, and if you're interesting in something with a more psychedelic angle then try Legacy by Hypnos 69.

Add Van der Graaf Generator's H to He, Who Am the Only One to that list too.
[editline]20th September 2011[/editline]
And Karnivool's Sound Awake, and Mike Oldfield's Amarok. That ought to be enough to keep you occupied for a while.

Albums like Relayer and Drama have much more energy than The Yes Album. For me, TYA just kind of plodded along for its duration.

Is it wrong that I find In The Wake of the Poseidon better than In the Court of the Crimson King? In the court of the crimson king was my favorite for a while but for some reason I never gave In the Wake of the Poseidon a try. I just did that a couple of days ago and yet again my mind has been blown while half asleep listening to music on youtube in a bed, on a laptop. Michael Giles drumming is absolutely SICK on the album, holy shit, Pictures of a City totally blows 21st century schizoid man out of the water in terms of drums.
However, while In the Court of the Crimson King every song is amazing, while Wake of the Poseidon is a little hit and miss for the most part.

Crimson King is like DSOTM for me, I find that its so easy to accept that its good that I don't need to explore it and it becomes less interesting. In the Wake of Poseidon isn't to everyone's tastes - I like Cat Food and Pictures of a City but I find it hard to get into the Peace stuff.
Starless and Bible Black is one of their real hits for me, and it was the least successful out of their prog years so who knows. The Night Watch is one of my all time favourite songs because its a song about a Rembrandt painting and it's so beautiful

Bruford is a powerhouse on The Yes Album.

Dude, they're like 1 minute songs. Besides it's pretty much In The Court part 2.

Nope, in ways I like it more too. It's more explosive imo.

Mine just arrived. Holographic cover is cool, although I sort of wish it was a slipcase with the regular artwork underneath.
Coin made me laugh, and so did some of the liner notes.
"Mastered at Abbey Road by Peter Mew with Mikael Akerfeldt present (drinking coffee)"

That looks pretty killer.
How come this probably hasn't been posted yet?

Petrucci just mezmerized the other guys.

Petrucci just mezmerized the other guys.
I believe this is one of Petrucci's many more polite ways of saying "Fuck you guys, I'm John Petrucci."
The other guitarists were quite not-as-good-as-John-Petrucci there. The first solo was on Kirk Hammet levels of wah, and the second guy played better with his teeth than with the pick.

Sigh, Grace for Drowning is being sent out as we speak and I still haven't ordered it. This is no good at all. Need more money.

This is amazing. I wouldn't call early Crimson something you can groove to but holy shit.
Also, just found this, I think it's hilarious and really shows the excesses of prog in a bad way, from one of Rick Wakeman's solo albums

When I saw Rick Wakeman in the cloak was like fuuuuuuck thats just bad

I really dislike the title track but the rest is rad, although overall I think ITCOTCK is better
In The Court of the Crimson King has the most misleading starting letters of all albums..
The full title of that album is "In The Court of the Crimson King: An Observation by King Crimson"
ITCOTCKAOBKC
Mail ordering Grace for drowning today. Most expensive version if I can wrangle it. In the meantime, it got leaked :v:
Holy shit I have never known such a good cd, this is absolutely mindblowing. Insurgentes was great I thought but this blows it right out of the water. A total masterpiece.

As if you downloaded it!
Killerteacup I am disappointed in you.
I'm waiting to hear the blu-ray in its high-def, surround sound beauty.

I downloaded it for legit reasons - Ie, I am only starting my new job today so I didn't have the money to preorder. I'm buying it in about 6 hours from burning shed so its not as if I'm cheaping him off or anything, I just dont to wait until 2 weeks after release when my cd arrives.
I don't have a blu-ray player anyway so I'm getting the vinyl with FLAC, or maybe the CD. not sure yet.

Oh I had no doubt you were going to buy it. I just find it silly to download leaked albums. Takes some of the magic out of putting that disc in and just sitting down to listen to it.

I did the same thing I'm doing as I did with Insurgentes when it got leaked and it didn't ruin the magic for me when the CD arrived really. I usually don't sit down and listen to it anyway, I listen while doing other things
It's still going down as my favourite album of the last 2-4 years :v:
I came home excitedly to find...
that my copy of Grace For Drowning hasn't arrived yet :saddowns:
Damn international shipping.

I just listened to this album. It is amazing.
I'll review GFD once people start getting it, theres a lot to say about it
Also GFD wouldn't arrive in Australia on release date, surely?
