Rings a bell, I'll look into it.

Apparantly people are suggesting this is progressive rock

I see where they're getting at, but it's a bit extreme to call it prog rock when it contains some styles.

It borders progressive, especially how the side two medley all blends together.

I've always believed that the definition of prog rock is just rock which mainly draws influences from classical and jazz rather than blues and rock & roll, so while I can sooooooooorta see where they're coming from it doesn't really fit in what I'd consider progressive

Progressive is pushing the boundaries of rock and roll to new musical and itellectual heights. Sgt Peppers is considered a key album in the formation of prog.

They weren't talking about formation, people were saying Abbey Road was actually a progressive rock album.

I know there's not a huge difference, but I've always considered Sgt Pepper's to be more art rock than prog rock
Protest The Hero is awesome. I love their new album (Scurillous).

Two great albums by a great band.
I need to get some Camel on vinyl. I'm pretty sure my store has some if I dig :v:
But I think I'll have to lay off working through their discography as my listening has been solely prog rock over the past 4 days or so.
Just let it envelop you :smug:

i love this album because it breaks the convention of what people call prog rock
instead of long guitar solo suites with heavy boom percussion and lyrics about mutant pet goats, they actually made a proper new-wavy pop album

i hate everything else though:
yes, jethro tull, and later pink floyd makes me gag
What kind of prog do you play? I'd really like to start writing my own music, but I've only been playing for about a year and haven´t bothered with a whole lot of theory + I don´t have any kind of recording equipment. I should really get a teacher at some point.
We mix in all our influences as much as we can. Right now were writing an upbeat funk metal influenced thing, but we dabble in prog death and technical prog metal. But our main style is kind of like Porcupine Tree, atmospheric.
To start you absolutely need some theory under your belt. Learn stuff about polyrhythms and things. And learn harmony. Specifically some jazz harmony and things like sus chords. Lots of people just do what they want, but having the theory gives it more structure and thought quite often. You also need to know the rules to break them properly.
On a different note, I'm pretty sure that The Universal Migrator by Ayreon is the most epic sounding prog metal album ever.

Let me get this straight.
You think it's a perfect prog album, because you think it's actually a New-wave pop album?
:crossarms:
show me where i said it was a perfect prog album
if i remember correctly that was the "mass-divide" album, devoid of the flute, mellotron, and duck whistle soundscapes that made them popular
But songs about mutant goats is what makes prog awesome
[editline]7th March 2011[/editline]
Holy shit I had no idea Lemmy played in Hawkwind.

You'd like their "Beat" album too. Some great stuff. :v:
I've been meaning to try Beat.
I've also heard good things about Thrak, and the song Dinosaur is really good:

Heard a bit of their final album and all of their 80s work. Their final album is pretty good so far, better than I expected, seeing as they used some modern styles.
My favourite prog band is probably An Endless Sporadic

Recommend me some.

Ameliorate, Debut EP. Remember the track "Impulse" from Guitar Hero 3? That was them.
Seem quite recent. Pretty good all the less.
I can't believe I waited this long until I started listening to more prog rock, this shit is awesome.
Larks' Tongues in Aspic is slowly becoming my favourite all time prog album. :smug:
