The fact that I have a raging mancrush on Heri Joensen, their singer, forever redeems them. Also they're fucking tremendous live
Mister Hammill is a genius. Still going all this time even after a heart attack or stroke or whatever. Rick Wakeman is also a funny guy
Could Mahavishnu Orchestra be considered prog?

This is probably the only thing worth hearing on ELP's last album. It's very nice, never thought they'd do a Bob Dylan cover.
I liked Pictures At An Exhibition :(
I liked Pictures At An Exhibition :(
Yeah, but do you prefer it to the original? And I didn't say I disliked the album, but I wouldn't listen to it over any other album of theirs.
Yeah, but do you prefer it to the original? And I didn't say I disliked the album, but I wouldn't listen to it over any other album of theirs.
I haven't heard the original, and I myself think that its atleast better than Black Moon.
I haven't heard the original, and I myself think that its atleast better than Black Moon.
Well I can't really say they were much good after Love Beach, but give the original Pictures at an Exhibition a listen. Some really nice experimentation there. With In The Hot Seat, Greg Lake simply killed it completely. Especially the song Daddy and Heart On Ice.
Here, have South Africa's answer to prog rock. Sounds like The Mars Volta!

Hey guys, this is the first time I've posted in this thread. I haven't read through all 50 of the other pages, so I apologise if anyone's posted this. But, Canterbury (the town where I currently live) used to have an incredible prog scene which died out about 20 years ago. Recently however, a new group of young artists are beginning to revive it - which I've been trying to play an active part. One of my friends is the singer of this band: They're called Syd Arthur and they're well worth a listen. Kate Bush's son is also in the band haha! There are a few other bands in the area which are trying to get a new scene started, but Canterbury is missing a decent venue for live music. Anyway, take a listen, it's good stuff, and they're even better live. Also, just a quick bit of self promotion, but we've been organising these 'roving open mic nights' where we get bands, musicians, poets to come and perform in people's lounge rooms every fortnight around the city. This is a video I shot of Liam (the lead singer of Syd Arthur) that night. It's magical:
awesome, get any photos?
Nah I forgot to take my camera. I think I saw some video cameras there so there may well be a DVD c: In the big synth section of Raider II he came out in the Insurgentes gas mask. Shit was fucking rad.

It's really good that your friends are trying to revive it. This is absolutely great stuff and I'd definitely buy it. In fact I probably will buy it

Also trout I really hope you're right, I want some live dvd action In your opinion however guys. Top 3 modern prog bands after the year 2000, but you are not allowed to include anything related to Steven Wilson I'm putting Pineapple Thief right up there
Lunatic Soul is good. Also Oceansize.
Riverside Pineapple Thief North Atlantic Oscillation I think... Might change my mind after more thought. TesseracT are almost up there. As are Scale The Summit and Oceansize. Oh and The Mars Volta. I was about to say Transatlantic, but they miss the mark by a year.

I went and bought their EP after only hearing one song. It's only a fiver. I just love his Kentish accent when he sings :) They're currently working on an album now. I'll post in here when it's released. Liam's younger brother is in a great band called the Boot Lagoon who are working on an album as well. They're well worth a listen if you liked Syd Arthur, but they're only got one song up on their myspace, which isn't as great as some other stuff of theirs that I've heard. Oh, here's the video: It appears to be just a promo thing, but why would they have all that footage if there isn't going to be a DVD?
