Progressive Rock - Psychadelic Galaxies in 7/4 Time

It's far from bad, it's just a bit bland for my tastes. It's also, as killerteacup pointed out, incoherent and lacks a central theme which really prevents the songs from merging together like great prog albums do.
Yeah exactly, I wasn't saying you said it was bad, I just thought my points might have made it seem like I was being more critical than I actually was being :>
It's much more of a collection of songs than an album which is very unusual for them
It is most definitely the worst Porcupine Tree album but that does not mean it is bad by any means, its really quite good, its just the most unremarkable.
Like if you have a listen to Feel So Low, its just your average acoustic song that any band could play, but its still good. Buying New Soul is one of my favourite songs from PT though, so go figure
I listened to FOAB. Great stuff, although very bleak. The worst part is that I actually know a few people in my life to whom this album speaks to.
I loved the lyrical motif "the mall" that ran throughout the album.
Stoned in the mall the kids play
And in this way wish away each day
Those are some brilliant lyrics.
All FOABP needed to rate as my favourite album ever was a reworked version of this song with the lyrics to close the album, maybe an acoustic version or something that really emphasises the lyrics.

But seriously FOABP still rates as one of my top albums, the concept is so strong, its political and not too fantastical like other prog rock concepts, it begins really strongly with the title song, hits some of the best production techniques in Anesthetize, like that bit where the guitar makes a groove using panning to the left and right which I never get sick of. Then songs like My Ashes and Sentimental which are some of the most well-composed songs I've heard.
Way Out of Here is one of my favourite tracks of all time. The whole album just puts me in this mood of being completely useless, it's incredible

I feel the same way about My Ashes and the album in general. It's so... soothing in a way.
The orchestration is beautiful on that song.

Sleep Together has an even better orchestral part.
Just started listening to The Sky Moves Sideways. Dat "sometimes" repetition part really gets me.
Great album so far.
The album version of The Moon Touches Your Shoulder is great, but I also liked how they played it live.

I never enjoyed that song, I always felt it was a bit too direct and blunt an ending for such an amazing album, but after seeing it live it really is an amazing track

Yeah, they needed to end it with something much more mellow

Yeah I don't think it was the best decision to end the album with it, but it's a great track nonetheless.

If that is fake they did a remarkably good job
Noctourniquet definitely sounds like it would be the name of a Mars Volta album

bullshit.
it's too easy to make up a title "Noctourniquet".
In my ignorance, I always thought The Mars Volta (and Van der Graaf Generator) were some obscure indie bands.
Time to broaden my horizons again, I suppose. Any suggestions for either?
Deloused in the Comatorium/Frances the Mute and Pawn Hearts

Godbluff is a good Van Der Graaf Generator album to start with

This is even more amazing, roundabout 8-bit, but actually simulated on the audio rendering capability of the NES

Best boss music of all time.
Huh, that's pretty neat.
I had a few Dream Theater 8-bit covers on my account once.
Then it was closed.

Do you guys think this band qualifies as prog?
Got a ticket to Soundwave for my birthday.
Devin Townsend, Meshuggah and Mastodon here I come!
Going to the Dream Theater gig on Monday.
