I can't believe I waited this long until I started listening to more prog rock, this shit is awesome.
You and me both.
You'd like their "Beat" album too. Some great stuff. :v:
additionally, if you like Discipline and the other 80s king crimson albums, I'd strongly recommend the live album Absent Lovers
Bought and listened to Octavarium, twas excellent but the balance of progressive rock to metal was a little off for my tastes.
What's the most progressive sounding Dream Theater album?

beat's not as good as discipline though
three's a perfect pair isn't bad

Images and Words, probably, and Scenes from a Memory too.
Awake and Six Degrees too, but IaM and SfaM are probably the best to start with.

Well no it isn't, but then again I'd say their early work was better than their 80s work. :3:
yay well i hate their earlier work
i mean there were a couple of gems here and there but most of it was just 70's overblown orchestra prog
red owns though it's special because it lacks all of that
i'd say red is probably the starting point of alternative rock
they removed the overblown instrumentation, removed the unnecessary time signature changes, and attempted to write decent songs
that continued on discipline
I think due to the band changing craploads throughout the 70s, changed the style of the band completely.
Seriously, if you listen to their debut and then listened to Red you'd be so confused. :v:
Come to think of it, that happened to quite a few bands. :/

Remember to judge it from a different perspective too. Just because you don't find enjoyment within it, doesn't make it worse overall.
I accept your tastes though.

:frown:
i'm too much of a punk, i distrust people who are too good at their instruments

right that's the mistake i make that i never clarify
i don't hate people that enjoy it but i can't stand it

It's a difficult way of explaining it, it's kinda saying "I don't particularly enjoy it as much as others have but I still regard it as a great work."
I don't say this that much because it makes me sound like a berk, but oh well. :buddy:
i guess what i mean is, i know why it's good, and it is good, but i don't like it
me liking something has nothing to do with how good it is
just because i don't like led zeppelin doesn't mean that led zeppelin isn't a good band
Why would you say you didn't like Led Zeppelin?
I'm not sure I could accept your reason for disliking them. :smug:
this might be a travesty to say but i hate guitar cock-rock

I have no idea what I'm trying to prove with this image
Prog Rock is without any doubt at all my favorite music genre.

I might give this a listen. Just out of curiosity :3:
I love prog rock, and I can proudly say that I am part of the "I got to hug Jon Anderson" group. I must say, he really is a nice guy.
I own "In the Court of the Crimson King" on vinyl.
It is awesome.

On a side note, Operation: Mindcrime by Queensryche. Fucking awesome? y/y
