Bought and listened to Octavarium, twas excellent but the balance of progressive rock to metal was a little off for my tastes. What's the most progressive sounding Dream Theater album?

Awake and Six Degrees too, but IaM and SfaM are probably the best to start with.

yay well i hate their earlier work i mean there were a couple of gems here and there but most of it was just 70's overblown orchestra prog red owns though it's special because it lacks all of that i'd say red is probably the starting point of alternative rock they removed the overblown instrumentation, removed the unnecessary time signature changes, and attempted to write decent songs that continued on discipline

I think due to the band changing craploads throughout the 70s, changed the style of the band completely.
